LG Announces New Smart TVs Will Have Chromecast Support Built In, Making Streaming Casting Simpler

LG smart TVs built this year will have Chromecast included automatically, and users will find Chromecast in hotels and hospitals as well.

The annual Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas in January is always a hotbed of announcements from big tech and media companies. The 2024 CES has been no different, and LG is the latest company to proclaim a big new update from the show; LG has announced that smart TVs it manufactures will include built-in Google Chromecast starting with 2024 models.

What Will Built-In Chromecast Bring to LG Smart TVs?

According to reporting from 9to5 Google, the built-in Chromecast functionality coming to LG smart TVs manufactured in 2024 and beyond was first announced on Jan. 8 by Erik Kay, Google’s VP of multi-device experiences, in order to bring a smoother casting experience to users.

“Today, we’re thrilled to announce LG TVs in 2024 will now have Chromecast built-in,” Kay said. “This means that LG TV users will be able to start a video on their phone or their Chrome browser and with just a tap of the Cast icon be able to start watching on the best screen in their house.”

Until now, LG smart TV owners have been forced to the third-party Miracast app to watch content cast from their Android-enabled mobile devices. Apple’s AirPlay has been available to use with LG smart TVs since 2019, but this marks the first time Chromecast will be compatible with LG devices. There was no mention of if, or when, LG smart TVs manufactured before 2024 will be getting support for Chromecast.

Which Streaming Apps Does Google Chromecast Support?

LG smart TV customers who buy a new set in 2024 will be able to enjoy most of the top streaming apps with Chromecast. Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Max, Paramount+, and Prime Video are the top on-demand streaming apps that work with Chromecast, but there are many more.

If you’re more into streaming live TV, Chromecast supports DIRECTV STREAM, Sling TV, Hulu + Live TV, Xfinity Stream, and of course YouTube TV. Using Chromecast will allow users to move the action on their favorite cable channel from their phone to their LG smart TV with the tap of a button thanks to the added Chromecast functionality.

Amazon is also upgrading its casting functionality on Fire TV devices, so it’s clear that equipment manufacturers are responding to customer demands for better casting abilities. If you’ve been thinking about snagging an LG smart TV in 2024, a built-in Chromecast will allow you to send streaming action from your phone directly to your set with ease.
