Something to Stream Every Day This Week; ‘Wonka,’ ‘Queens’ Streaming Premieres, 96th Academy Awards, More

The Oscars are headed to airwaves this weekend, but what other new shows and movies can you watch on your favorite streamer until then?

Continuing 2024’s unsettling trend of moving approximately twice as fast as a normal year, the first full week of March is already upon us. Since it’s an election year that means Super Tuesday is coming up this week, along with President Biden’s State of the Union address. It also means the hotly anticipated NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is just around the corner.

March Madness may be close, but it hasn’t started quite yet, and that means that viewers who don’t want to stream election news this week will need something else to watch. Fortunately, The Streamable is here to guide you to a new show or movie coming to a streamer near you every single day of the week.

Extraordinary’ Season 2 Premiere | Hulu

What if developing superpowers was as routine as growing out your fingernails? That’s essentially the way life is in “Extraordinary,” which is set in a universe where everyone develops a power of some sort on their 18th birthday. Everyone, that is, except for Jen.

Extraordinary

January 25, 2023

At the age of 25, Jen is a costume shop employee with no powers whatsoever. She’s stuck navigating a world in which all of her peers can do something special and usually manages to do so…with the aid of a snarky remark or two. This unique superhero comedy turns the tropes of the genre on its head with wit and levity, proving a breath of fresh air in a category of shows and movies that many would argue has become stale.

2024 Academy Awards | ABC, stream with a free trial of DIRECTV STREAM

The glitz, glamor, and prestige of the Oscars returns to ABC, and it’s a pleasant surprise to some in the industry that the ceremony is proceeding on schedule. Strikes by Hollywood’s biggest writer and actor unions in 2023 led to some meaningful reforms for the members of those unions, but they created some doubt as to whether major award shows like the Oscars would proceed on time.

There’s no stopping the Academy Awards in 2024, however, and now viewers are filling out their home-printed ballots to register their official predictions. Will “Killers of the Flower Moon” or “Oppenheimer” take home Best Picture? Will Ryan Gosling take home a Best Supporting Actor statue for “Barbie,” and what will he have to say about Margot Robbie’s failure to secure a nomination for that movie if he does? There’s only one way to find out!
