Sony Deleting Purchased Warner Bros. Discovery Shows from PlayStation Libraries

Shows like ‘Cake Boss’ and ‘Naked and Afraid’ will soon be disappearing from your PlayStation library, whether you paid for it or not.

One of the worst changes brought on by the streaming revolution is the lack of content ownership. Digital purchases are highly convenient, allowing users to have their favorite show or movie available on-demand anywhere. The flipside of this coin is that often, customers who “buy” a show or movie digitally don’t actually own that content permanently.

  • A long list of Warner Bros. Discovery shows are being removed from PlayStation Network and the libraries of users who paid for them.
  • The list includes popular titles like “Cake Boss,” “Deadliest Catch,” “Mythbusters,” and many more.
  • These series can still be viewed on Max or discovery+.

Which WBD Shows Are Disappearing from PlayStation?

A long list of the most popular Discovery shows are being deleted from PlayStation libraries

A new report from Kotaku indicates that PlayStation users are about to learn the lesson of digital content ownership the hard way. The report states that Sony is preparing to delete dozens of Discovery shows from PlayStation libraries, regardless of whether the affected user paid for the episodes or not.

Shows like “Mythbusters,” “Dirty Jobs,” “How Do They Do It?” and many other of Discovery’s most popular titles. Users can find a full list of Discovery shows that will be deleted from PlayStation libraries here.

“Due to our content licensing arrangements with content providers, you will no longer be able to watch any of your previously purchased Discovery content and the content will be removed from your video library,” reads an email to affected users.

Where to Watch Shows Deleted from PlayStation Libraries

The move to delete already-purchased content from PlayStation libraries certainly sounds like an idea cooked up by the same company that decided to mothball an already-completed movie (“Batgirl”) in 2022 in favor of tax write downs. The savings-or-bust mentality at WBD is clearly alive and well, and while pulling this content from PlayStation libraries won’t cut costs dramatically for the company, it will force users who want to stream the titles to head to a WBD streaming platform.

Max carries the biggest titles on the list, as well as all the best-known HBO originals like “Succession,” “House of the Dragon” and “The Last of Us.” Max also has live news content from CNN, as well as live sports from TNT and TBS, with prices starting at $9.99 per month for ad-supported streaming.

If the title you’re searching for isn’t on Max, discovery+ may be the way to go. It carries the biggest variety of Discovery shows of any streaming platform, and it can be had for as little as $4.99 per month to stream with ads, or $8.99 per month to go ad free.
