Mike Birbiglia Sets “The Old Man and the Pool” Comedy Special at Netflix

Following a run on both Broadway and in the West End, Mike Birbiglia is bringing his comedy special “The Old Man and the Pool” to Netflix for all to see.

The new special is Birbiglia’s fifth for the streamer, starting with 2008’s “What I Should Have Said Was Nothing” and up to his most recent, “The New One,” in 2019. “The Old Man and the Pool” sees Birbiglia “take on life’s big questions: why are we here? What’s next? Exactly how much chlorine are they putting in the YMCA pool?”

The show ran on Broadway from Nov. 13, 2022–Jan. 15, 2023, followed by its run in London’s West End from Sept. 12–Oct. 7. The hour-long special debuts on the streamer on Nov. 21.


“Good Burger” Sequel Releases Official Trailer

Paramount+ is finally serving up the official sequel to the highly anticipated “Good Burger 2,” the sequel to the hit 1997 film.

Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell will reprise their roles as Dex and Ed as they reunite in the present-day sequel.
Down on his luck after another of his inventions fails, Dex is back in his old job at the title restaurant with Ed as manager and a new group of employees around him. But as he devises a plan to get back on his feet, the fate of Good Burger is once again at risk.

The sequel also stars Lil Rel Howery, Jillian Bell, Kamaia Fairburn, Alex R. Hibbert, Fabrizio Guido, Elizabeth Hinkler, Emily Hinkler, and Anabel Graetz, plus cameos from original film stars Josh Server, Lori Beth Denberg, and Carmen Electra.

“Good Burger 2” will premiere on Paramount+ on Wednesday, Nov. 22.


Freevee Orders More “Tribunal Justice”

Before the case of its premiere season is closed, “Tribunal Justice” is getting a retrial. Amazon’s Freevee has announced a second-season order of the courtroom program, created and executive produced by Judge Judy Sheindlin.

The debut season of “Tribunal Justice” premiered in June. New episodes will continue to be released through Dec. 1, both on demand and on the “Amazon Originals” and “Judge & Jury” FAST channels.

The series revolves around a panel of judges collectively adjudicating real cases and is presided over by Judge Patricia DiMango, former New York State Supreme Court Justice and Administrative Judge of the New York State Supreme Court, Criminal Term, Kings County; Judge Tanya Acker, an experienced civil litigator and former Judge Pro Tem in Los Angeles; and Judge Adam Levy, former Putnam County District Attorney and a criminal defense attorney for 20 years. Bailiff Cassandra Britt and fan-favorite former “Judge Judy” bailiff Petri Hawkins-Byrd will return for the new season.


Premiere Date Announced for Sundance Now’s “Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale”

Sundance Now and AMC+ are staying witchy through November as the channel and streamer have announced the premiere date for the upcoming drama series “Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale.”

Written and created by Debbie Horsfield and adapted from the novel by V.V. James, the seven-part series is set in a contemporary world in the idyllic English town of Sanctuary, where witchcraft is real and, for hundreds of years, witches have lived peacefully as valued members of society… until now.

Elaine Cassidy, Hazel Doupe, and Amy de Bhrun lead the cast opposite Stephanie Levi-John, Valerie O’Connor, Kelly Campbell, and Stephen Lord.

The Sundance Now original series debuts with a two-episode premiere on Jan. 4.


Netflix Releases Trailer for “Stamped from the Beginning”

Netflix has debuted the official trailer for its upcoming documentary “Stamped from the Beginning,” coming to the platform later this month.

Oscar winner Roger Ross Williams (“Music by Prudence”) helms the documentary adaptation, which blends animation, live action, and the art of the era to bring to life the award-winning nonfiction book by Dr. Ibram X. Kendi.

Published in 2016, “Stamped from the Beginning” chronicles the story of anti-Black racist ideas and their power throughout the course of American history. The book won the National Book Award for Nonfiction. Along with Dr. Kendi, the adapted documentary will feature Dr. Angela Davis, Honorée Fanonne Jeffers, Brittany Packnett Cunningham, Dr. Jennifer L. Morgan, and more.

“Stamped from the Beginning” will premiere in select theaters on Nov. 10 and on Netflix on Nov. 20.


Roku Releases Trailers for Two New Holiday Originals”

Now that Halloween is officially in the past, the Roku Channel is shifting toward the official holiday season and has released the trailers for two of its upcoming holiday-themed projects: “How to Fall in Love by the Holidays” and “The Holiday Shift.”

Directed by Michael Kennedy and written by Ansley Gordon, “How to Fall in Love by the Holidays” follows a writer-turned-CEO (Teri Hatcher) who must save her company by writing a column on her falling in love by the holidays… complicated by the handsome photographer who has been assigned to the piece. Dan Payne co-stars.

The five-episode romantic comedy series “The Holiday Shift” will center on the intersecting love stories of young mall employees during the holiday season. Varun Saranga, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Devyn Nekoda, Nadine Bhabha, Brielle Robillard, and Michael Delleva star with Sarah Levy and Jon Dore in featured roles.

“How to Fall in Love by the Holidays” will be available on the Roku Channel on Friday, Nov. 3, and “The Holiday Shift” will be available on Friday, Nov. 17.
