“Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” Returns Next Month

Last week’s news never sleeps. HBO has announced the premiere date for the 11th season of its award-winning current events show “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver,” which will premiere on Sunday, Feb. 18.

The half-hour satirical, insightful, and meticulously researched series takes a microscopic look at current political, social, economic, and cultural issues in the United States, as well as lesser-reported topics. Since its premiere in 2014, the weekly series has received 28 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Scripted Variety Series and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series at the just-past 75th Primetime Emmys.

“Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” will air on HBO on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 11 p.m. ET/PT and be available to watch simultaneously on Max. The series has already been renewed through 2026.


“The Tiger’s Apprentice” Gets First Trailer

Paramount+ has released the first trailer for its star-studded animated feature film “The Tiger's Apprentice.”

Based on the popular children’s book series of the same name by Laurence Yep, the family film follows Chinese-American teenager Tom Lee (voiced by Brandon Soo Hoo), whose life changes forever when he discovers he is part of a long lineage of magical protectors known as the Guardians. Guided by a mythical tiger named Hu (Henry Golding), Tom takes on Loo (Michelle Yeoh), a force with evil intentions as powerful as the Guardian, and must reunite all 12 Zodiac animal warriors and master his own powers.

Alongside Golding, Soo Hoo, and Yeoh, the animated adventure features Lucy Liu, Sandra Oh, Bowen Yang, Leah Lewis, Kheng Hua Tan, Sherry Cola, Deborah S. Craig, Jo Koy, Greta Lee, Diana Lee Inosanto, Patrick Gallagher, and Poppy Liu.

“The Tiger’s Apprentice” will premiere on Paramount+ on Friday, Feb. 2, in the U.S.


Netflix Releases Trailer for Adam Sandler’s “Spaceman”

Adam Sandler heads into zero gravity for the new Netflix sci-fi drama “Spaceman,” which has received its first trailer.

Based on the 2017 novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař, Sandler stars as astronaut Jakub, who, six months into a solitary research mission to the edge of the solar system, realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth. Desperate to fix things with his wife, Lenka (Carey Mulligan), Jakub works with Hanuš (voiced by Paul Dano), a mysterious creature from the beginning of time he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship, to make sense of what went wrong in his marriage before it’s too late.

“Spaceman” will premiere on Netflix on Friday, March 1.


Guy Ritchie’s “The Gentlemen” Series Gets First-Look Teaser

Netflix has a few gentlemen it wants to introduce you to. The streamer has released a first-look teaser for Guy Ritchie’s “The Gentlemen,” a new action-drama series starring “The White Lotus” star Theo James.

The series will be a spinoff of Ritchie's 2020 film of the same name, bringing in a new cast led by James as the Duke of Halstead, Eddie Horniman, the estranged son of an English aristocrat who finds himself embroiled in a world of criminality under career criminal Bobby Glass’ (Ray Winstone) cannabis empire on the East End of London after inheriting his father’s sizable estate. Kaya Scodelario also co-stars with Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Giancarlo Esposito, Chanel Cresswell, Michael Vu, Max Beesley, Jasmine Blackborow, Harry Goodwins, Dar Salim, Pearce Quigley, Ruby Sear, and Peter Serafinowicz making up the rest of the ensemble.

Australian Rom-Com “Five Blind Dates” Trailer Out Now

Love is in the air times five. Prime Video has released the trailer for its upcoming Australian Original “Five Blind Dates,” a romantic comedy feature co-created and co-written by Shuang Hu and Nathan Ramos-Park.

Hu stars as 20-something Lia, who, faced with her failing traditional Chinese tea shop inherited from her beloved grandma and the prospect of attending her younger sister’s impending wedding single and alone, is reluctantly gifted with a prophecy: the fate of her shop and her love life are intertwined, and the secret lies in one of her next five dates. Under pressure from her family, she agrees to be set up with five different suitors in hopes of saving her business and finding herself.

Starring opposite Hu are Ilai Swindells, Yoson An, Jon Prasida, Desmond Chiam, Ilai Swindells, Tiffany Wong, Renee Lim, Rob Collins, and Tzi Ma.

“Five Blind Dates” will premiere exclusively on Prime Video ahead of Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, Feb. 13. The upcoming film is the first feature film produced locally by Prime Video in Australia.

“Giannis: The Marvelous Journey” Documentary Premieres February 19 on Prime Video

Prime Video is reaching great heights with its latest documentary project. The streamer has announced the upcoming release of “Giannis: The Marvelous Journey,” a feature-length documentary and intimate portrait of one of the NBA’s most dominant players, chronicling the odyssey of Milwaukee Bucks megastar and two-time league MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo from an impoverished childhood in Athens, Greece, as the son of Nigerian immigrants to the height of international basketball superstardom as the “Greek Freak.”

Featuring interviews with Antetokounmpo and his entire family (who are giving first-person accounts for the first time on their collective journey), his fiancée Mariah Riddlesprigger, and basketball luminaries including Jason Kidd, Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday, Kenny Smith, Vin Baker, Ernie Johnson, and more. It marks the first time the family has given first-person accounts of their collective journey.

“Giannis: The Marvelous Journey” will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on Monday, Feb. 19.
