Streaming News: ‘Only Murders’ Renewed, ‘True Detective’ Teaser

Only Murders in the Building” Renewed for Season 4

On the day of the “Only Murders in the Building” Season 3 finale, Hulu, quick as a whip, has picked up the hit Hulu whodunit for a fourth season.

The comedy series stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez as a trio of true-crime podcast fans who, after a suspicious death in their Upper West Side apartment building, become friends and amateur detectives.

Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd guest-starred in the third season, which had its finale on Oct. 3 and centered around the trio investigating a murder behind the scenes of a Broadway show. Rudd played Ben Glenroy, a Hollywood action star whose Broadway debut is cut short by his own death, and Streep played Loretta Durkin, a struggling actor and the love interest of Short’s Oliver.

The Season 3 premiere had the most viewers of any scripted Hulu Original in 2023, and the series as a whole is Hulu’s most-watched comedy original. Following the end of the WGA strike, the writers’ room is expected to resume shortly.


Trailer Released for Upcoming Film “Fingernails

Apple Original Films has debuted a new trailer for the upcoming “Fingernails,” starring Jessie Buckley, Riz Ahmed, Jeremy Allen White, and Luke Wilson.

Buckley and White star as Anna and Ryan, who have found true love that has been confirmed by a controversial new technology. However, Anna increasingly suspects her relationship may not be the real thing and attempts to improve things by secretly embarking on a new assignment at a love-testing institute, where she meets Amir (Ahmed).

Christos Nikou (“Apples”) will direct and write the feature, making his English-language feature film debut. “Fingernails” will make its theatrical debut on Friday, Oct. 27, followed by its global premiere on Apple TV+ the following Friday, Nov. 3.


HBO Releases New Teaser for “True Detective: Night Country

After an almost-four-year hiatus, HBO’s “True Detective” is back for a fourth season, titled “True Detective: Night Country,” and the cabler has released a brand-new trailer for the highly anticipated new installment

The six-episode season of the hit anthology series will star Jodie Foster and Kali Reis with Finn Bennett, Fiona Shaw, Christopher Eccleston, Isabella Star LaBlanc, and John Hawkes, as well as guest stars Anna Lambe, Aka Niviâna, June Thiele, Diane Benson, and Joel D. Montgrand.

In “Night Country,” “a long winter night falls on Ennis, Alaska, [and] the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) must confront the darkness they carry in themselves and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”

“True Detective: Night Country will debut on Sunday, Jan. 14 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and will be available to stream on Max simultaneously.


First-Look Video for Netflix’s “Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft” Out Now

Netflix has released a first-look video for its upcoming anime series “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft,” with Hayley Atwell voicing the title Croft.

This will be the first time the famous video game character will appear in an animated series. The series will pick up after the reboot trilogy, following Croft as she explores new territories around the world. Tasha Huo (Netflix’s “The Witcher: Blood Origin”) is the series writer.

An official release date has yet to be announced, but the series will debut on Netflix in 2024.


First Look for Apple TV+’s “Criminal Look” Revealed

Apple TV+ has dropped the first look for its upcoming eight-episode crime thriller “Criminal Record,” starring Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo.

The character-driven drama is set in contemporary London and follows two brilliant detectives who are drawn into a confrontation over an old, high-profile murder case: “one a young woman in the early stages of her career, the other a well-connected man determined to protect his legacy.”

Capaldi and Jumbo will star opposite Charlie Creed-Miles, Shaun Dooley, Stephen Campbell Moore, Zoë Wanamaker, Rasaq Kukoyi, Maisie Ayres, Aysha Kala, Cathy Tyson, and Tom Moutchi.

“Criminal Record” will make its global debut on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, followed by new episodes every Friday through Feb. 23.


Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to Stream Live on Disney+

For the first time ever, Disney+ is ready to rock at this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. ABC has announced it will broadcast the event (live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York City) coast to coast on the streamer this Friday, Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. ET. The ceremony will also be available to stream on Disney+ following the ceremony, and ABC will kick off the new year on Monday, Jan. 1 at 8 p.m. ET with a special with performance highlights, standout moments, and more.

This year’s Induction Ceremony will honor Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine, and The Spinners, along with DJ Kool Herc and Link Wray for Musical Influence, and Chaka Khan, Al Kooper, Bernie Taupin for Musical Excellence, and Don Cornelius for the Ahmet Ertegun Award. The event will feature performances from Crow, Elliott, Khan, and Nelson, as well as special guests Brandi Carlile, Dave Matthews, Elton John, H.E.R., Chris Stapleton, St. Vincent, New Edition, and many more.
