ViX Premium Launching Ad-Supported Tier Later This Year

The plan will slide in alongside ViX Gratis, the free streaming platform from the company which also incorporates ads.

ViX is joining the ranks of streaming platforms that offer a paid, ad-supported streaming tier. Ad plans bring in substantially more revenue than ad-free streaming plans do, and now ViX will have two streaming offerings with ads attached to tempt customers with, as an ad-supported tier of ViX Premium will launch sometime in 2024.

  • ViX’s new ad-supported plan will feature a moderate ad load, and cost less than the ad-free $6.99 tier.
  • The new tier will have all the content of ViX Premium, which sets it apart from ViX Gratis.
  • Details about the price and release date of the new service will be unveiled in coming months.

What Will ViX’s New Ad Tier Offer?

ViX Premium carries more than 75,000 hours of content, including telenovelas, exclusive series and movies, live soccer games from Liga MX and the UEFA Champions League, news and more. It features a huge library of Spanish-language content, and is one of the top streaming services among Latino customers in the United States.

The new ad plan of ViX Premium will offer access to all this content. Currently, ViX Premium costs $6.99 per month to subscribe to, so the price of the new ad-supported tier will almost certainly be lower. However, the launch of an ad plan by ViX may indicate a price increase is coming to its commercial-free offering. More details regarding the launch date and price of ViX Premium with Ads are coming soon.

“Building on the success of our AVOD offering and our strong SVOD subscription growth, we are expanding access to our Premium offering with the new ViX Premium with Ads tier. This tier will provide U.S. subscribers with more options to enjoy the full offering of our original productions and live sports at a lower price point, further enhancing the accessibility to our service,” said Pierluigi Gazzolo, CEO of ViX. “ViX Premium with Ads will extend the reach of our product to more consumers and create additional opportunities for brands to engage with our growing audience.”

Wait, Doesn’t ViX Have an Ad-Supported Plan Already?

ViX does have a free ad-supported streaming service already, which it calls ViX Gratis. That service has some of ViX’s original content, free live TV channels and on-demand titles, but it does not have the full ViX library. That will be the main difference between the two ad-supported offerings; ViX Premium with Ads will have the entire ViX catalog available.

ViX Gratis has more than 40 million monthly active users, and has become an important piece of parent company TelevisaUnivision’s streaming and linear TV constellation. That makes it unlikely that ViX will shut down ViX Gratis, even when the new ad-supported version of Vix Premium launches.

ViX is currently available in the U.S., Mexico, and most of Spanish-speaking Latin America. Audiences can watch a wide variety of its content at no cost thanks to ViX Gratis, or they can sign up to ViX Premium for $6.99 per month to gain the ability to download shows and movies for offline viewing, and of course watch content without any commercials. Soon, ViX Premium customers will have a lower-cost plan with commercials to choose from.
