What Are the Top 5 Shows and Movies Coming to Disney+ in 2024; ‘Deadpool 3,’ ‘Inside Out 2,’ ‘Echo,’ More

Releases from the Marvel and Star Wars franchises, as well as films from the ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Planet of the Apes’ franchises will head to Disney+ next year.

There’s no doubting 2023 was a big year for Disney+. The streamer saw the release of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” shows from big-name franchises like “Ahsoka” from the Star Wars universe, the second season of Marvel’s “Loki” and many more titles.

So what is Disney+ planning in 2024? Read up on The Streamable’s list of the top five most-anticipated titles set to debut on Disney+ at some point in the new year, and when we predict you’ll be able to watch them if no release date has been announced.

Echo’ Series Premiere | Jan. 9

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were first introduced to Echo in the “Hawkeye” miniseries released in 2021. Echo, a.k.a. Maya Lopez is a Choctaw Native American, formerly in the employ of Wilson Fisk. Now free from his grip, Lopez must return to her Oklahoma home to re-discover her roots and identify her purpose.

One of the most unique things about the series is that the character of Echo is deaf. She’s the first deaf superhero in the MCU, and that’s not where the list of firsts ends with this series. It is also the first MCU series to be rated TV-MA, and the first that will stream simultaneously on Hulu from start to finish.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ | Theatrical release on May 24, Estimated Streaming in late September

The latest installment in the rebooted “Planet of the Apes” franchise takes place 300 years after the events of the last film. Apes have begun to create their own civilizations, and humans have returned to a feral state. When Proximus Caesar, leader of one group of apes begins a policy of enslavement of other clans, few stand in his way.

A young chimpanzee named Noa disagrees with the new system installed by Proximus, and knows the future of ape-kind depends upon cooperation. Teaming with a young human named Mae, Noa sets out on a thrilling journey fraught with perils to help find a new future for both species. These rebooted “Planet of the Apes” films are filled with emotion, incredible storytelling and stunning visuals, and fans of cinema should be very excited for the film’s release.

Inside Out 2’ | Coming to Theaters June 14, Estimated Streaming in Mid-October

Riley is a teenager now, and that means one thing: new emotions are coming! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust will have to deal with new arrivals at headquarters, and first up on the list is a fellow Emotion they’ll soon wish they hadn’t met: Anxiety!

The latest Pixar releases on Disney+ haven’t been barn-burners at the box office, nor have they been runaway hits with critics. “Elemental” still stayed in theaters for more than 100 days after its initial release. It’s likely that “Inside Out 2” will do likewise, and if it proves to be a big hit it could take even longer to reach Disney+. Nevertheless, there’s almost no chance it won’t hit the streamer sometime in 2024.

Deadpool 3’ | Coming to Theaters July 26, Estimated Streaming Early December

The newest installment in the “Deadpool” franchise will see Ryan Reynolds return as the foul-mouthed, quick-healing antihero. Virtually nothing is known about the film’s plot, but it will see Deadpool enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time, in what’s sure to be a fish-out-of-water experience. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine has been photographed on-set in costume, but his role in the film is unclear as of now.

“Deadpool 3” could stay in theaters for as many as 200 days, so hotly anticipated has its release been. That would delay its streaming release until 2025, however, and we think there’s a better chance that Disney would schedule its streaming debut to take advantage of holiday viewing.

‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ | TBD 2024

Despite finishing principal photography in early 2023, Disney has been slow-playing the release of intel on “Skeleton Crew.” It will center on a group of children who discover an artifact and find themselves lost in the galaxy. With the help of a Force-user, they must try to find their way home.

The show’s budget for its first season ballooned to more than $135 million, making it one of the most expensive TV seasons of all time. The involvement of Jude Law makes it a highly fascinating prospect, and even though it doesn’t have a release date The Streamable expects it in the first half of the year, since Disney won’t want to leave too much room between releases and “Ahsoka” bowed in October.

‘X-Men ‘97’ | TBD 2024

This one is for all the millennials who remember the “X-Men” animated series of the mid 1990s. It will bring back several of the show’s voice cast, and the plot will continue where the original left off when it aired its final episode in 1997.

This is one of several Marvel titles that saw its release date shift thanks to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes that ground productions to a screeching halt for more than 100 days. It was originally supposed to debut in 2023, but its new, unspecified date has been set for early 2024. An educated guess would place its release sometime before March, as much of the work on the show’s first season was likely done before the strikes began.
