Pluto TV Plans Weeklong Earth Day Programming

Fern Siegel

AVOD Pluto TV plans a weeklong special to tout Earth Day on its various channels: Pluto TV Animals, Pluto TV Science and Pluto TV Voyager.

Earth Day, which began in 1970, is celebrated globally on April 22. It highlights the need for environmental protections.

A subsidiary of ViacomCBS, Pluto’s channels will offer documentaries the week of April 20-25, focused on nature and climate change.

Some of the docs streaming on Pluto TV Animals include “Sharks: Scavengers of the Sea” and “Shark Man With Riley Elliott.” Gordon Ramsay, the star of “Hell’s Kitchen” will be featured in “Gordon Ramsay: Shark Bait,” in which he explores the shark-fishing industry.

The ad-supported OTT streaming service, with more 250-plus channels, recently announced a new tagline: “Drop In. It’s Free.” As of Q4 2019, it reported 22 million monthly active users.

It just debuted Project Venetia to make it easier for viewers to find preferred streaming shows. Live on Apple, Vizio, and Roku devices, with staged releases across other devices, including Android and Amazon Fire TV, Project Venetia’s new features include:

• Watch Now button, which lets viewers save titles to view at a later time, even if watching a program live.
• Improved on-demand UX, so viewers can click to their favorite genres.
• Channel Favoriting, the ability to keep favorite channels at the top of the channel guide.

Pluto also partnered with Vidaa International to bring Pluto’s channels to Vidaa’s platform in the U.S., Europe and Latin America. The service remains free where it is offered.

Separately, every April 22, Hulu also runs an “Earth Day” show.
