It seems WWE Network — the WWE’s 24/7 live streaming direct-to-consumer network that includes all of WWE’s pay-per-view events, as well as classic fights — had a rough fourth quarter in 2019. During their earnings call today, the company revealed that the streaming service lost 10 percent of its subscribers and is now down to 1.42 million users.
According to Variety, “WWE also said it was considering ‘strategic alternatives’ for WWE Network but did not elaborate other than to say that the service its part of its ongoing financial guidance.”
In September, the streaming service relaunched after having undergone some major changes since its split from Disney. WWE Network relaunched with three pricing tiers that ensure maximum service to their consumers. The first tier is free. It offers the same free-to-watch videos that can be found on WWE.com and was reported to include timed previews of paid WWE Network content. The second tier is their regular tier, which combines free content with subscription benefits like live pay-per-views, on-demand streaming, and original programming.
The third tier is a premium tier, which, according to WWE co-president George Barrios, will “potentially bring together more content for [subscribers], more features and also integrate some of our other non-video services like our commerce — potentially integrating something like free shipping, bringing together our digital ticketing efforts in there.”
