Plex Now Allows You to Write and Share Reviews
The new feature takes the social experience on Plex to another level.
Plex is one of the most fascinating offerings in the world of streaming. Many users never delve past the hundreds of free ad-supported TV (FAST) channels you can watch on Plex, but the service is so much more, allowing audiences to set up their own private media servers, upload their own content, and browse multiple streaming services for specific titles with a universal watchlist. In addition to these unique capabilities, Plex is rolling out a new feature that will allow its viewers to write reviews for shows and movies they love (or hate) and share them with friends.
Key Details:
- The reviews function is available to anyone with a registered Plex account.
- Writers can flag reviews as spoiler-laden to avoid giving out too much information to those who don’t want it.
- Browsers can filter reviews to include those just from critics or only those from other Plex customers.
Plex’s new reviews option is now available for all users with a verified email address. Any registered Plex account can review an episode, full series, or movie, and those reviews will be seen by everyone in their Plex universe. The reviews can be edited or deleted after being submitted, in case more time or rewatches change your opinion on a title.
Users can limit who sees their reviews to just friends or friends of friends, or they can keep their reviews private. Reviews can also be marked as spoiler-filled, so viewers who don’t want to know too many details about a title can remain blissfully in the dark until they stream the show or movie. Customers who decide to use the Plex reviews function can filter the types of reviews they see; they can read reviews from users and critics, filter out either critics or users, or see no reviews at all.
Since reviews are not stored locally on the Plex Media Server, the “Sync Watch State & Ratings” must be enabled to write reviews for items in a Personal Media library. Reviews will always be accessible from the details pages in the Discover source (and accessible via search).

The Streamable highly recommends that every fan of using on-demand streaming services grabs a Plex account. Its universal search will help you look up not just movie titles, but even specific actors, directors, or other key figures in productions to see what else they’ve worked on. It compiles content from all your streaming subscriptions on one database, so you don’t have to jump through apps to browse.
Plex also has a paid subscription option called the Plex Pass, which allows you to plug in an antenna and stream live TV from broadcast channels, as well as record shows and movies straight to your hard drive. The service is a fantastic platform for watching and sharing your favorites, and now you can leave reviews to let other users know just how much you enjoyed a specific title.
