Hulu Scores With ‘Parasite,’ Rockets to No. 2 Most-Watched Movie

Fern Siegel

The Oscar-winning “Parasite” has become a hit on Hulu. The service reports it’s the second-most-watched film in the streamer’s history, notes The Wrap.

The movie chronicles a poor family’s plan to infiltrate a wealthy household by pretending they don’t know each other. “Parasite” landed on Hulu April 8 and quickly shot to the No. 1 most-watched indie or foreign film on the service.

To put that in perspective, Hulu says that’s more views in a week than “A Quiet Place, “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World,” “Transformers: The Last Knight” and “Creed II” garnered during their time on the service. And some of those titles have been available for months.

“Parasite” won four Oscars this year, the first non-English-language film to earn the Best Picture award.
Hulu has also added three other films by director Bong Joon Ho: “Barking Dogs Never Bite,” “Mother” and “The Host.”

Another winner for Hulu: The eight-episode “Little Fires Everywhere,” starring Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington, based on the bestselling Celeste Ng book. The fiery show has been its most screened drama series, reports the streamer, past or present.

Hulu is extending its service. In March, it rolled out on Comcast’s Xfinity Flex; now it’s available on Xfinty’s X1 devices. X1 customers will have access to Hulu Originals, movies and shows, in addition to the growing collection of networks and streaming services already available to them.
