AVOD Crackle is launching a comedy on May 14 about a semi-pro wrestler sidelined by a virus — and he has to be quarantined. The only person he sees is his female medic.
While “Cooped Up” sounds timely, it was actually made long before the pandemic hit.
Starring Charles Cottier (“Home and Away”), Kathryn Beck, Adam Demos and Stephen Peacocke, the show was produced in 2016. The show’s filmmaker, Kane Guglielmi (“The Confession,” “Home and Away”), is now under quarantine in Italy.
“When I made ‘Cooped Up,’ I never dreamt its concept would become a reality for millions worldwide. During this time, my hope is that it becomes a feel-good distraction for everyone in need of a little light-heartedness,” he said.
Crackle is available on Amazon FireTV, RokuTV and devices, Apple TV, most Smart TVs (Samsung, LG, Vizio), PS4 and XBoxOne, iOS and Android mobile devices and on desktop at Crackle.com.
President of Crackle Plus, Philippe Guelton, added the company was “looking for exclusive programming that entertains and lifts people up. We are excited to bring this timely comedy to our U.S. audience.”
Crackle Plus is a joint venture formed by Sony Pictures Television and Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, Inc. The company’s ad-supported VOD channels include Crackle (U.S. and Canada), Popcornflix, Popcornflix Kids, Truli, Popcornflix Comedy, Frightpix, and Espanolflix.
