‘Ted Lasso’ to Begin Pre-Production on New Season in January

Fans of the feel-good show have been clamoring for more ever since the end of its third season.

Ted Lasso continues to move toward a fourth season on Apple TV+.

Keep believing, “Ted Lasso” fans! The heartwarming series about a U.S. football coach from Kansas who moves to England to coach a Premier League soccer team had fans very glum indeed when it seemingly ended for good after its third season. But Sigmund Judge of Mac Stories is reporting that the show will indeed be back for a fourth season, and that it won’t be long before the ball gets rolling.

Key Details:

  • Season 4 of “Ted Lasso” will start up pre-production in 2025.
  • It’s still not clear what the premise of the new season will be.
  • Several series regulars have all had contract options for a new season picked up.
Fans will cheer quite loud if Ted Lasso does indeed come back for a new season.

Judge informed followers via X (the social media site once called Twitter) that “Ted Lasso” Season 4 will start up pre-production in London in January, 2025. It’s the surest sign yet that the show is indeed returning for new episodes in some form.

Just what form the season will take is still up for debate. Judge specifically calls it a fourth season of “Ted Lasso” as opposed to any kind of spinoff, so presumably Jason Sudeikis — who originated the character in a series of promos for NBC Premier League coverage — will be involved in some way.

The trouble with that is, as anyone who watched Season 3 of “Ted Lasso” knows, the character’s journey was brought to a fairly satisfying conclusion. Would it make sense for him to come back and assume a large role in a new season? Sudeikis himself said following the end of the show he was satisfied with where his character ended up, though he was open to spinoff ideas.

Judge’s report is just the latest sign that “Ted Lasso” is returning for new episodes on Apple TV+. In late August, reports circulated that several key “Ted Lasso” starts had had their contract options for a fourth season picked up, including Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins).

Apple TV+ currently houses all three seasons of “Ted Lasso,” alongside a wide variety of original shows and movies like the new action movie “Wolfs” starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney, as well as shows like “Bad Monkey” with Vince Vaughn and much more. Subscriptions cost $10 per month after a seven-day free trial.
