What are the 5 Best Shows, Movies, and Specials Coming to Netflix in August 2024?
“Rebel Moon” — The Director’s Cut | Friday, Aug. 2
Zack Snyder’s recent space opera franchise gets the #SnyderCut treatment, going from PG-13 to R and gaining over two hours of previously cut footage. Sofia Boutella leads the cast of both parts (“A Child of Fire,” which was released on Netflix in December 2023, and “The Scargiver,” released this past April) as Kora, a stranger with a mysterious past who crash lands on a moon colony in the furthest reaches of the universe and becomes the only hope for survival against the tyrannical Regent Balisarius and the Imperium army. In “The Scargiver,” Kora and the surviving warriors prepare to fight alongside the people of Veldt, facing their truths and building unbreakable bonds as the full force of the Realm bears down. The two Netflix cuts clocked in at four hours and nine minutes; the two Director’s Cuts will take six hours and 17 minutes to complete.

“The Umbrella Academy” Season 4 | Thursday, Aug. 8
The popular superhero series says goodbye after four seasons, as the adopted sibling Hargreeves are left to fend for themselves after the climactic showdown at the Hotel Oblivion and the Academy must “come together one last time—and risk upsetting the shaky peace they’ve all endured so much to secure—to finally set things right.” The series, which is based on the comic book series by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way, stars Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, Colm Feore, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, David Cross, and more.

“Emily in Paris” Season 4, Part 1 | Thursday, Aug. 15
The fourth installment of Darren Star’s soapy rom-dram will come to the streamer in two parts (the first on Aug. 15 and the second on Sept. 12), and after the Season 3 finale, there’s a lot of ground to cover: Emily’s feelings for both Gabriel and Alfie, Mindy’s plans for Eurovision, Sylvie’s personal and professional dilemmas, and Emily and Gabriel’s path toward a Michelin star. Lily Collins leads the cast opposite Camille Razat, Lucas Bravo, Lucien Laviscount, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, William Abadie, Kate Walsh, Jeremy O. Harris, Céline Menville, Kevin Dias, and more.

“KAOS” | Thursday, Aug. 29
This new darkly comic and contemporary take on Greek mythology from “The End of the F***ing World” creator Charlie Covell stars Jeff Goldblum as king of the gods Zeus, who begins to dangerously self-destruct after he discovers a wrinkle on his forehead, believing it to be the harbinger of an ancient prophecy which foretells his destruction… and the paranoia may or may not be warranted. Janet McTeer co-stars with David Thewlis, Rakie Ayola, Cliff Curtis, Stephen Dillane, and others.

“The Deliverance” | Friday, Aug. 30

Inspired by a true story, the film follows Ebony (Andra Day), a struggling single mother who moves her family into a new home for a fresh start. But strange occurrences inside the home begin to raise the suspicions of Child Protective Services and threaten to tear the family apart, and Ebony soon finds herself locked in a battle for her life and her children’s souls.
