Disney Reaches Deal with Amazon to Bring Disney+ to Fire TV at Launch

Jason Gurwin

Disney announced today that they have reached a deal with Amazon to bring Disney+ to Amazon Fire TV devices when the service launches next Tuesday, November 12th. In addition, the company reached deals for the streaming service to come to Samsung and LG Smart TVs.

On Fire TV devices, Disney+ content will be included in Fire TV’s universal search feature making it easy to find and discover content with your voice. For example, “Alexa, play The Mandalorian” to start streaming; or discover Disney+ content in search results such as, “Alexa, find Star Wars movies.”

This joins devices that the company has already announced including those from Apple, Google, Microsoft, Roku, and Sony.

Supported Devices
  • Amazon Fire TV
  • Apple TV
  • Chromecast
  • Roku & Roku TV
  • Android TV
  • Xbox
  • LG Smart TVs
  • Samsung Smart TVs
  • PS4
  • iPhone & iPod Touch

Disney+ will launch their streaming service on November 12th at just $6.99 a month, nearly half the price of Netflix ($12.99). Starting with the 2019 theatrical slate, all Disney/Pixar/Marvel/Star Wars films will become exclusive to Disney+ meaning movies like the live-action versions of Aladdin, The Lion King, Captain Marvel, and Avengers: Endgame will only be available to stream on Disney+.

The company also announced an original slate including a 8-episode Star Wars series from Jon Favreau which will be available at launch in November. The first year will include 25 new original series, 10+ movies, 7,500 past episodes, 100 recent movies, and 400 library titles including the entire Disney Vault. Previously, many of those new releases and library films would have gone to Netflix as part of a distribution deal that started in 2016.
