Starting this month, ESPN+ is expanding its sports coverage to more than 50 events, starting with boxing, football and Major League Baseball’s 2020 season — with the option of Spanish-language commentary.
For soccer followers, ESPN+ will be the exclusive home of Spain’s Copa del Rey and its final, live streaming an estimated 65 matches per year. (The tournament’s second round begins Jan. 11.) A total of 116 clubs will compete in this season’s Copa del Rey. The Copa del Rey final will take place April 18.
Plus, the network will carry the English FA Cup, Carabao Cup and EFL, Coppa Italia, FA Cup, Germany’s Bundesliga, Dutch Eredivise and Major League Soccer.
Starting Jan. 13, the sports streamer adds “Fuera de Juego,” a news/analysis show focused on global soccer, of special interest to U.S. Hispanic sports fans.
Russell Wolff, executive vice president-GM, ESPN+, stated that a Spanish option was part of “our continued effort to serve fans and enhance their experience.” He added the Copa del Rey agreement reflects the streamer’s position as a “must-have home for world-class soccer in the U.S.”
In January, ESPN+ will have more than 50 live sports events available to fans with Spanish commentary, beginning with the following events, Jan 11-16.
Live UFC coverage will also be streamed in Spanish.
