Nearly 80% of OTT Streaming With Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, & YouTube
Live TV Streaming Services Like Sling TV, DiRECTV NOW, and Hulu Live TV Next
According to a report from Comscore, 78.8% of OTT streaming is spent on the “big four” — Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and YouTube. Following the big streamers are vMVPDs like Sling TV, PlayStation Vue, fuboTV, Hulu Live TV, Philo, and DIRECTV NOW, YouTube TV — which make up 5.9% of streaming time. Those streaming cable networks using their TV Everywhere Apps make up 2.4% of time streaming, while streaming premium networks like HBO and Showtime consume just 1.5% of time spent.

Over the past three years, Netflix has reached a 75% penetration of streaming households, which is the highest of any of the “big four.” However, Hulu and Amazon has seen the biggest growth over that time. Since 2017, Hulu has seen their penetration increase from 22% to 32% of households, with most of that growth in the last year. Amazon Prime Video has seen similar rapid growth from 33% to 44% of households.

While Netflix is popular even with those who still have cable or satellite, Hulu seems to be more popular with cord-cutters. Netflix reaches 71% of cable households and 84% of cord-cutters. In comparison, Hulu sees an even bigger gap, reaching just 24% of cable households — but 52% of cord-cutter households.
