New streamer Peacock has given an eight-episode order to the young adult drama “One of Us Is Lying.”
Based on the New York Times bestseller by Karen M. McManus, the show takes an ordinary high-school event and turns it into a scary premise. Five students are assigned detention, but only four get out alive.
Dario Madrona, creator of the Netflix Spanish-language hit “Elite,” has been tapped as showrunner. Jennifer Morrison directed and produced the pilot, which was written by Erica Saleh.
The cast include Marianly Tejada (“The Purge”), Cooper van Grootel (“Go!”), Annalisa Cochrane (“Into the Dark: Pure”), Chibuikem Uche (“Ghost Draft”), Barrett Carnahan (“Grown-ish”), Jessica McLeod (“You Me Her”) and Melissa Collazo (“Swamp Thing”).
Peacock has ordered several series with top names attached.
Its comedy roster includes “MacGruber,” starring Will Forte, based on the 2010 film, and “Rutherford Falls,” starring Ed Helms (“The Office”) and Michael Schur. Tina Fey, Robert Carlock (“30 Rock”) and Meredith Scardino are behind the comedy “Girls5eva,” which stars singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles.
