Netflix plans an original series based on a Korean zombie webtoon.
The streamer is partnering with director Lee JQ (“Beethoven Virus,” “Intimate Strangers”) to produce “All of Us Are Dead.” Lee is noted for his distinct cinematography.
The series is written Chun Sung-il and directed by Lee JQ and Kim Nam-su. Produced by JTBC Studios and Film Monster, no official launch date has been announced.
The original source show, “Now at Our School,” was a hit in Indonesia, Thailand and Taiwan, as well as Korea.
The genre is so popular that Netflix’s first Korean original, “Kingdom,” offered a similar zombie-like theme. Its second season kicked off in March.
In addition to “Kingdom,” the streamer has ordered other Korean originals: “The School Nurse Files,” “My Holo Love” and “Extracurricular.”
The genre is especially appealing to young demos. Netflix just surpassed YouTube as the video platform most preferred by U.S. teens. A Piper Sandler research survey found Gen Zers spent 33 percent of daily video consumption at the streamer.
