Roku Unlocks Episodes of Premium Content, Gives Users Free Access to Shows From SHOWTIME, EPIX, Acorn TV & More
Roku announced that Premium Subscriptions on The Roku Channel is now offering free episodes from some of the networks’ popular shows. Episodes from shows such as SHOWTIME’s On Becoming a God in Central Florida, EPIX’s Godfather of Harlem, HISTORY Vault’s America The Story of Us, Dove Channel’s Heartland, and Acorn TV’s Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries are now available for streaming on The Roku Channel with no subscription or trial required.
Roku did not disclose exactly how many episodes of each show will be made available, but they did state that you can subscribe to any one of the premium services once you’ve “sampled your new favorite show” implying that there’s a finite number of free episodes offered. They also didn’t give a full list of shows that are being offered.
Roku, which surpassed 30 million active accounts in August, announced the launch of Premium Subscriptions on The Roku Channel back in January. Users can access 25+ premium partners including: Showtime, Starz, EPIX, Lifetime Movie Club, Smithsonian Channel Plus, Tastemade, and more.
The Roku Channel also offers free, ad-supported content from networks such as ACC Digital Network, USA Today, Now This, Comedy Dynamics, and fubo Sports Network.
