Yes, Disney+ Is Great for Kids, but It Also Has a Surprising Amount to Offer Adults as Well

In addition to the Marvel and Star Wars titles on Disney+, parents also have the newly added Hulu titles as well.

To say that Disney+ is a good streaming service for kids seems like a fairly obvious thing to point out. However, when you dive deeply into the streamer and its library, you get a sense of just how vast its array of programming is for all members of the entire family. Disney+ is a real winner for homes with children of every age, not only because of the volume and variety of kids’ titles available, but because of the number of shows and movies for parents to watch after they put the kiddos to bed.

What does Disney+ offer to all members of the family?

Legends in Animation

Disney+ has a huge amount of animated titles, from classics to comtemporary.

One of the most undeniable aspects of the Disney+ library is its animation bona fides. It hosts the most famous titles from the most famous animation studio in history; classics like “Cinderella” and “Snow White” share the platform with more contemporary hits like “Moana” and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2.”

The expansive Disney animation library includes beloved TV favorites from the 1980s and ’90s like “DuckTales” and “Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers,” alongside newer shows for all ages, from “Bluey” to “Big City Greens,” and so much more.

That’s the real strength of the Disney+ animation catalog: it combines quality with quantity. Yes, there are big-name franchises that viewers know and love here, but there’s also a deep back-bench stuffed with shows and movies that even the most ardent Disney fans may never have heard of. There are age-appropriate titles available for every age group, so even families that have kids who are several years apart will have plenty to choose from.

Not Just Brain Rot

Disney+ offers a good variety of educational titles as well as animation.

Another strength of Disney+ is that the kids programming it offers isn’t just fluff. The streamer has shown a real commitment to ensuring that kids don’t simply veg out and melt their brains when watching; it offers real educational titles as well, particularly in its National Geographic hub.

This subsection of the Disney+ library is stacked with nature, history, and science programming presented by one of the most trusted names in educational content. Viewers can browse shows like “Animals Up Close with Bertie Gregory” to learn more about the complex and fragile natural world around them. These titles help kids develop a greater appreciation for the environment from a young age.

What About Mom and Dad?

Andor and other adult-focused titles prove that Disney+ is more than just a streamer for kids.

As most viewers are likely already aware, Disney+ customers can bundle the service with Hulu for an extra $2 per month and watch the titles of both services directly from the Disney+ app.

But even customers who decide not to do this will still find that there’s plenty of content for adults to enjoy on Disney+. The National Geographic hub is packed with titles that adults will find fascinating, including crime documentaries like “The Nightcrawlers.” The streamer also hosts a good selection of music documentaries, such as “The Beatles: Get Back.”

Outside this section, parents can still watch the longest-running animated sitcom in history, as Seasons 1-35 of “The Simpsons” are now streaming in Disney+. The streamer also hosts TV shows from the Marvel and Star Wars franchises like “Echo” and “Andor” which were clearly created with adult audiences in mind. It may take more digging than it does to find kids’ shows on Disney+, but there’s plenty for parents to feast on after the kids go to bed.

Sharing is Caring

Disney+ allows for up to four simultaneous streams and seven user profiles on one account.

Zooming out from the Disney+ library to take a look at the streamer’s interface also shows a highly family-friendly service. Disney+ allows you to create up to seven profiles per account, so everyone in your household can keep their preferences and watch histories separate from everyone else.

Robust parental controls also help maintain Disney+’s status as a good family streamer. Parents can set profiles to Kids Mode to ensure they only see age-appropriate material, and kids’ shows and movies don’t come with ads even if you’re using the ad-supported plan.

Finally, Disney+ allows for up to four simultaneous streams within the same household. That means parents won’t have to settle as many fights about whose turn it is to watch if one kid wants to stream “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” at the same time that another wants to see “Beauty and the Beast.”

Final Thoughts

As a person who doesn’t have kids but is an avid Disney+ subscriber, I can attest to the strength of its library even with all the kids’ shows and movies removed from the equation. But the inclusion of those titles takes the service to a whole different level for families.

The diversity of content in the Disney+ library is the main reason it’s such a fantastic service for families, as there’s truly something for everyone to stream there even without the addition of Hulu content. Combine that with how easy the service is to share in the same household, and you’ve got what’s clearly the best streaming service for families with kids of all the various choices available.
