YouTube Rolls Out Series of Improvements in Latest App Update

Audiences will be able to take greater control of their YouTube experience with this round of upgrades.

YouTube is well-known for continually updating its interface to keep its users happy. The social video streaming platform makes one big update every year, and the company has announced that its latest series of upgrades are making their way to viewers on smart TVs, mobile devices, the web, and YouTube Music now.

Key Details:

  • YouTube has updated its playlists to make them more collaborative and customizable.
  • Users will now be able to move and resize the YouTube mini-player while using the app.
  • A new Sleep Timer will let users turn off YouTube automatically if they think they’re about to drift off.

YouTube’s newest update features more than two dozen new upgrades total, designed to make the platform easier and more intuitive for audiences to use. Many of these updates are specifically sourced from user feedback.

The biggest improvements to YouTube’s app are significant indeed. The YouTube miniplayer has gotten a facelift; now, users can resize and move the miniplayer in the YouTube mobile app, allowing them to browse for their next option while continuing to play their current choice.

Playlists are now easier to share with friends on YouTube, as well. Using a custom link or QR code (coming soon to YouTube’s connected TV app), YouTube subscribers can invite friends to collaborate on a playlist. They can also set up special thumbnail photos for playlists, using their own photos or with the aid of AI generation.

Viewers can also now utilize YouTube’s Sleep Timer feature, which will automatically pause playback after a selected period of time. This feature got “rave reviews” when tested by YouTube Premium subscribers earlier this year, and is now making its way to all YouTube browsers.

YouTube is also rolling out achievement badges in its latest update, allowing viewers to celebrate milestones on both the video platform and YouTube Music. This will encourage more watching by audiences, and help them to feel like they’re a greater part of the YouTube community.

Other updates include changes to the YouTube smart TV app to make viewing more cinematic, and a new user interface for watching Shorts on TVs. Viewers also have more options for changing playback speeds, improved browsing in Landscape mode on mobile, and more upgraded features to explore.
