7 Sneaky Legal Ways to Save Big on Streaming

7 Sneaky Legal Ways to Save Big on Streaming

As streaming prices continue climbing higher, it’s time to reassess how much we’re spending. There are several ways to save on streamers, but entertainment companies are counting on us choosing a “set it and forget it” monthly plan.

Take a few minutes to consider these options and you’ll be able to save a ton!

1. Choose the Annual Plan

If you have a service you love, it’s worth paying up front for a full year. In most cases, streamers will offer about 17% off the price if you choose an annual plan.

The 17% annual discount applies to Disney+, Max, Hulu, Paramount Plus, and Peacock. For some streamers, the annual discount tops 30%.

Another important fact: locking in an annual price protects you in case the streamer raises its monthly price.

2. Subscribe with a Bundle

Bundles are a fantastic way to save. Here are some of our favorites:

Hulu Live TV

Get 33 of the top 35 cable channels and free Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu on-demand. Those services would cost $27 if you bought them individually, so it’s a great value.

The Disney/Max Bundles

If you don’t want live TV, you can bundle Disney’s services with or without Max.

Bundle Price Services Ads Downloads
Disney Duo Basic $10.99 Disney+ and Hulu Yes No
Disney Trio Basic $16.99 Disney+ and Hulu and ESPN+ Yes No
Disney Trio Premium $26.99 Disney+ and Hulu and ESPN+ Only on ESPN+ Yes
Disney+, Hulu, Max Bundle with Ads $16.99 Disney+ and Hulu and Max No No
Disney+, Hulu, Max Bundle Ad-Free $29.99 Disney+ and Hulu and Max Yes Yes

AMC+

When you sign up to AMC+, you gain access to three more great streamers: IFC Films Unlimited, Shudder, and Sundance Now. That means you get a ton of compelling dramas, spine-tingling horror, and breakthrough independent films.

If you subscribed to Sundance Now, Shudder, and IFC Films Unlimited on their own, that would cost $20/month. But you get all of those services and the great AMC library for just $4.99 with ads or $8.99 without ads.

3. Consider Your Credit Card

Many credit cards offer great deals on streaming. I use the American Express Blue Cash Preferred, which automatically gives me 6% cash back on all of these streamers:

  • Apple TV+
  • DIRECTV STREAM
  • Disney+
  • ESPN+
  • Fubo
  • Hulu
  • Max
  • MGM+
  • MLB.TV
  • NBA League Pass
  • Netflix
  • Paramount+
  • Peacock
  • Prime Video
  • Sling TV
  • YouTube TV

Right now, my card is also giving me $25 back if I buy the Max annual plan and $20 back for the annual Peacock or AMC+ plans. I can get a full refund for three months of Paramount+ with Showtime. Those deals change over time, so make a monthly habit of checking any rewards credit cards to make sure you’re not paying more than you need.

4. Look for Cellular Phone Savings

Some cellular providers offer deep discounts to their customers, so be sure to check any current deals.

Verizon

If you have Verizon as your mobile or internet provider, you can get great deals on streaming. In one of their current deals, you get a free year of Netflix ($275) if you sign up for a year of NFL+.

T-Mobile

Depending on your phone plan, you may be able to get free Apple TV+, Hulu, MLB.TV, and Netflix.

5. Get Major Discounts with Other Memberships

Even if you’re not old, we recommend a membership to AARP. Yes, really. It’s only $12 for your first year and it gives you a 10% discount on Paramount+. You could also use AARP for a $20 annual discount to Walmart+, which gives you FREE Paramount+.

If you combine all three of those services, you’d get all the discounts and benefits of AARP, all the discounts and benefits of Walmart+, AND Paramount+ for a total equivalent of $7.50/month. That’s an unbelievable deal. (Ad-supported Paramount+ on its own costs $7.99!)

There may be other discounts with other membership organizations, so be sure to check any you may be entitled to. (AAA doesn’t offer any streaming deals right now, but we hope that will change.)

6. Save With Gift Cards

Let’s say you’ve found a great deal with a bundle or annual plan or through another avenue. Now it’s time to pay. If your credit card offers a cash back bonus (see above), that might be the way to go. But there’s another clever way to save even more: consider a discounted gift card!

Although their offerings change, GCX from Raise.com offers discounts on digital gift cards. Right now, you can get some fantastic deals:

You’ll get an email with the digital gift card. Head to the streamer and enter that information as your initial payment method. Load these discounted cards into your account as a payment method and the streamers will draw from the gift cards first before hitting your credit card.

7. Wait for Black Friday

If you’re in the market for a new streaming service, Black Friday is always your best bet. I’ve been tracking streaming deals for four years and those end-of-November sales are always the best prices of the year. Historically, Hulu offers the best Black Friday deal, but Prime Video also has a load of great discounts. As always, bookmark TheStreamable.com and sign up for our newsletter to keep tabs on all the best deals.
