Crunchyroll Eclipses 13 Million Paid Global Subscribers, Continues to Lead the World in Anime Streaming
The ‘Ultimate Anime Destination’ is home to over 46,000 episodes and 1,300 unique titles
If anime isn’t a genre that you normally follow, it might surprise you that it is one of the most popular genres in the world. Not only do more than half of Netflix’s worldwide subscribers check out anime on any given year, but the world’s leading anime streaming service Crunchyroll just crossed a major milestone. A little over two years after being acquired by Sony in August 2021, the streamer has gone from 5 million paid global customers to 13 million, as was announced during a presentation 2024 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week.
- Crunchyroll recently surpassed 13 million premium paid subscribers around the world.
- The platform also announced that it has distributed 10 of the top 20 grossing anime films in United States box office history.
- Crunchyroll boasts the largest anime library, with over 1,300 unique titles and 46,000 episodes totaling over 24,000 hours available to stream.
Anime Is One of the Most Popular Genres in the World and Crunchyroll Is Its Leading Platform
The rapid growth of Crunchyroll to become not only the largest anime streamer in the world, but one of the fastest-rising platforms globally as well is not the only sign of anime's increasing popularity. Last summer, Hulu announced the creation of a hub dedicated to the genre and adult-focused animation. In the fall of 2023, Prime Video Channels announced that it would be making Crunchyroll available via its a la carte subscription platform. And while Crunchyroll began requiring paid, premium subscriptions to watch live simulcasts of shows airing in Japan in early 2022, in October, the streamer launched a collection of free streaming channels for “anime-curious” viewers.
Clearly, the expansion of anime reach has been incredibly beneficial for Crunchyroll as the platform is now arguably the largest niche streaming service in the world. To celebrate the news, Crunchyroll provided additional data regarding its successes over the past few years. The service is now available on over 15 platforms, including all major gaming consoles, and is available in over 12 languages — including Hindi, Italian, Castilian Spanish, Tamil, Telugu, and more.
In addition to the over 46,000 episodes across 1,300 titles totaling more than 24,000 hours of content, the platform also hosts 3,300 Japanese music videos and concert specials.

What Anime Titles Can You Stream on Crunchyroll?
In an attempt to reach a wider audience, Crunchyroll debuted two new streaming options in 2023. In October, it joined Prime Video Channels to create an anime fan’s dream 1-2 punch. The service also launched a FAST channel on Freevee, LG Channels, The Roku Channel, and VIZIO WatchFree+ to entice “anime-curious” audiences with free access to some of the platform’s biggest shows.
While you won’t see “Attack on Titan,” “One Piece” or “Dragon Ball” on here, you will see shows like “Horimiya,” “Ranking of Kings,” “Moriarty the Patriot,” “PSYCHO–PASS,” “Arifureta,” “Sugar Apple Fairytale,” “To Your Eternity,” and “Code Geass.” Additionally, the channel features themed programming blocks, promotional titles, and more that will help expose viewers to the wide range of anime being created in Japan.
Crunchyroll is available on most streaming devices, including Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Roku, Android TV, iPhone/iPad, Android Phone/Tablet, Mac, Windows, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, LG Smart TV, Samsung Smart TV, Sony Smart TV, and VIZIO Smart TV.
