DIRECTV Adding New Severe Weather Options Ahead of Hurricane Helene Landfall

DIRECTV wants to make sure viewers potentially in harm’s way get up-to-the-minute coverage of the storm.

DIRECTV is creating two new options to allow viewers in the path of Hurricane Helene to stay informed about the storm.

As has been forecast for most of the week, Hurricane Helene will make landfall on Thursday night as a Category 3 storm. That is strong enough to be classified as a major hurricane, and viewers in the Gulf Coast region of Florida sit squarely in the storm’s path. To help keep ahead of potentially dangerous weather, DIRECTV is launching two new channel options to allow viewers to get critical news updates about the storm.

Key Details:

  • The new Severe Weather Channel will present live, rotating coverage from local stations in the path of the storm.
  • The Severe Weather Mix will offer coverage from AccuWeather, The Weather Channel, CNN and the Severe Weather Channel.
  • DIRECTV has provided similar emergency coverage for past hurricanes.

DIRECTV customers can watch on the new weather mix channels for Helene, or get their local station coverage if they choose.

The two new options for watching all the latest Helene news from DIRECTV are anchored by the Severe Weather Channel. This station will offer rotating coverage from local news outlets from areas that are expected to be hit by the hurricane. Multiple top station groups such as the Atlanta-based Cox Media Group, Fox Television Stations, Gray Television, Nexstar, Sinclair Broadcast Group, and TEGNA have agreed to participate.

The Severe Weather Channel will leverage stations in Tampa-St. Petersburg, Florida; Tallahassee, Florida- Thomas, Georgia; Atlanta, Georgia; and Nashville, Tennessee. It will also join DIRECTV’s Severe Weather Mix, which will provide coverage from four different channels: AccuWeather, CNN, The Weather Channel, and the Severe Weather Channel from DIRECTV.

The Severe Weather Channel will be available for all DIRECTV satellite customers [Ch. 361-2] and AT&T U-verse homes [Ch. 1227(HD)/227(SD)]. The Severe Weather Mix will be found on 361-1 (weather adjacent), 71-1, 200-1, and 307-2 (news mix adjacent). These channels will not available on DIRECTV STREAM or DIRECTV via Internet, as DIRECTV cannot offer these unique configurations via streaming.
