MyFree DIRECTV: Free Ad-Supported Streaming Platform from DIRECTV Coming Next Month

DIRECTV is continuing to expand its presence in the streaming world. The company already offers two internet-based services: DIRECTV STREAM and DIRECTV via Internet, both of which can deliver hundreds of popular cable channels to your home without the need for one of DIRECTV’s trademark satellite dishes. Now it’s preparing to add another service to its arsenal: a free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) platform called MyFree DIRECTV, which will roll out to customers next month.
Key Details:
- MyFree DIRECTV will launch on Nov. 15.
- It appears the streamer will allow all viewers to sign up, not just current or former subscribers.
- The service will launch with FAST channels and on-demand content, with more channels to be added soon.

The new MyFree DIRECTV service is due to launch on Friday, Nov. 15, and, once available, it will be accessible to customers via Web, on mobile devices, and through select smart TVs and streaming devices. Presumably, MyFree DIRECTV will come in its own dedicated app, though that was not confirmed by the company’s press release. Many live TV streaming services that also provide FAST options integrate the channels into their paid service channel lineup, while making them available separately for non-subscribers.
“DIRECTV envisions a brighter TV future that offers consumers quality content with more choice and more control at the right value. The launch of MyFree DIRECTV will do just that,” DIRECTV’s Amy Leifer said.
The free streamer will offer viewers a taste of what they can get with a paid DIRECTV service. At launch, MyFree DIRECTV will offer a number of FAST channels, including channels dedicated to content recently imported from A&E like the “Duck Dynasty” and “Ice Road Truckers” channels.
As of now, it appears that MyFree DIRECTV will be available to all consumers, regardless of whether or not they have a DIRECTV subscription or have done so in the past. That would make MyFree DIRECTV similar to Sling Freestream, whereas Fubo’s free streaming service only allows viewers to watch if they are now or once were paid subscribers.
The free streamer will borrow from paid DIRECTV services in one important aspect: it will import the “Your TV” content aggregation carousel, which means that viewers will be able to see recently-watched live channels and content recommendations right away when they log onto the service.
MyFree DIRECTV will offer on-demand content as well as live channels and will continue to add programming in 2025 and beyond. Audiences can head to myfreedirectv.com now and sign up to be notified when the free streamer hits the market.
