Disney+ boosting video quality with introduction of HDR10+

Viewers will be able to choose this premium HDR format during playback on Disney+ soon.

Disney+ will soon begin offering HDR10+ technology with its shows and movies.

The 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is in full swing this week, and it’s leading to a wealth of new announcements from top streaming services. The conglomeration of companies behind the creation of HDR10+ video technology was also on hand at this year’s CES, and used the opportunity to announce that Disney+ will soon be streaming its TV shows and movies in this format.

Key Details:

  • HDR10+ uses dynamic metadata to optimize each frame of HDR video.
  • There was no specific date given for when Disney+ will begin using HDR10+.
  • Disney+ already offers video in HDR10 and Dolby Vision, as well as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X IMAX Enhanced audio.

Disney already makes use of HDR10 technology, but HDR10+ takes things to another level. It uses dynamic metadata to adjust and optimize every video frame, making for the best possible viewing experience. Considering Disney+ streams visual feasts like its Marvel and Star Wars content, having the best possible video tech available makes sense for the streamer.

The move to add HDR10+ is especially good news for owners of Samsung TVs, which are not compatible with Dolby Vision, the other tech platform that makes use of dynamic metadata. However, there was no official word on when exactly HDR10+ will roll out on Disney+.

Other streamers, such as Apple TV+, Hulu, Paramount+, and Prime Video have begun using HDR10+. Most other streamers are still using Dolby Vision, but it’s hard to argue that HDR10+ isn’t catching on amongst top video providers.

Disney+ already offers its content in HDR10 and Dolby Vision, and for audio enhancements, it provides the option to listen using Dolby Atmos and DTS:X IMAX Enhanced audio. The streamer now comes with live sports as well, as any viewers also subscribed to ESPN+ can watch a selection of that service’s content through the ESPN tile first made available on Disney+ in December.
