Google quietly announced a minor refresh to Chromecast devices today. The most noticeable change to the device is their new look.
The third-generation Chromecast now comes with a matte case, instead of glossy — in both Chalk and Charcoal.
The $35 device features 1080p resolution at 60fps like the previous model. The devices supports 802.11ac (2.4GHz/5GHz) like the previous model.
The new casing no longer has a magnetic attachment to fold the HDMI cable.
The update is a little bit of a disappointment given the recent announcements from Roku and Amazon. Both companies announced 4K streaming devices for less than $50 in the last few weeks.
The cheapest Chromecast that supports 4K streaming in the Chromecast Ultra at $69.99.
The update third-generation Chromecast is now available at most online merchants.
