“Inside Out 2” is already the highest-grossing animated film of all time, pulling in almost $1.7 billion at the global box office. It crossed the $1 billion mark in just 19 days and is now proving to be just as much of a juggernaut on streaming.
According to Disney, “Inside Out 2” has been viewed 30.5 million times since its debut on Disney+ on Sept. 25. That makes it the biggest movie premiere on the service for the entirety of 2024, and the biggest premiere of all time in the EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) and LATAM (Latin America) regions.
Better yet for Disney+, the film is helping to boost engagement with related titles on the service. Since the teaser trailer for “Inside Out 2” debuted last fall, “Inside Out” has been viewed 121 million times on the streamer.
“Inside Out 2” takes audiences back inside the mind of 13-year-old Riley, whose emotions are just getting used to the onset of puberty when they have to deal with some new arrivals: Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Adebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser). How will Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Tony Hale), and Disgust (Liza Lapira) react to the newcomers?
Despite its undeniable success, “Inside Out 2” may not have long been at the top of Disney+’s most-viewed list. “Deadpool & Wolverine” — which just became available for digital rental or purchase on sites like Prime Video — is likely to come to Disney+ sometime around the holidays. If it does, it could blow past the impressive marks set by “Inside Out 2.”
