There’s a new reality coming for Apple device users. The Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset is launching on Feb. 2, 2024, and the tech giant has announced that in addition to native support for Disney+, the headset will offer hundreds of 3D movies like “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and more.

  • Apple and Disney first announced the Vision Pro partnership in summer 2023.
  • Users will be able to watch more than 150 titles in 3D on the headset, from various providers.
  • The Apple Vision Pro headset will retail for $3,499, and goes on sale Feb. 2.

What Is the Apple Vision Pro?

The Apple Vision Pro is Apple’s forthcoming mixed-reality headset, which can blend real and virtual environments. Buyers will be able to stream many of their favorite apps on the device, including Apple TV+ and Disney+, as well as discovery+, Prime Video, Paramount+, Peacock, Pluto TV, Fubo, Crunchyroll, ESPN+, Max, MLB.TV, and NBA League Pass. The headset will also support the ability to watch titles in 3D, and will launch with more than 150 available titles like “Dune,” “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and more.

Owners can also change the environment around them to enjoy themes from top streaming titles. The Apple Vision Pro makes for a totally immersive virtual reality experience, seamlessly combining the world around you with a magical virtual world that you can choose yourself.

“Apple Vision Pro is the ultimate entertainment device,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s SVP of worldwide marketing. “Users can turn any place into the best seat in the house, enjoy personal concerts and adventures with Apple Immersive Video, interact with lifelike prehistoric creatures in ‘Encounter Dinosaurs,’ and even land on the surface of the moon using Environments.”

What Disney+ Exclusives Are Coming to Apple Vision Pro?

As announced in summer of 2023, the Apple Vision Pro will come with Disney+ built in. Disney+ subscribers will be able to stream titles like “Avengers: Endgame” and “Encanto” in 3D, with more titles to be announced at a later date.

Disney+ customers can also use four Disney-themed environments on the Apple Vision Pro: the Disney+ Theater, inspired by the historic El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood; the Scare Floor from Pixar’s “Monsters Inc.”; Marvel’s Avengers Tower overlooking downtown Manhattan; and the cockpit of Luke Skywalker’s landspeeder, facing twin setting suns on the planet of Tatooine. Fans will see sights, hear sounds, and find Easter eggs from their favorite franchises in these digital environments.

“At Disney, we’re constantly searching for new ways to entertain, inform, and inspire by combining exceptional creativity with groundbreaking technology to create truly remarkable experiences,” said Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company. “Apple Vision Pro is a revolutionary platform that will bring our fans closer to the characters and stories they love while immersing them more deeply in all that Disney has to offer. We’re proud to once again be partnering with Apple to bring extraordinary new Disney experiences to people around the world.”

What Else Will Apple Vision Pro Launch With?

The Apple Vision Pro allows its users to watch Apple Immersive Video, which allows the viewer to turn their head 180 degrees and take in the video’s entire environment. The 3D, 8K recordings are captured with Spatial Audio, which puts audiences right in the very center of the action in a completely immersive experience. The following titles will be available on Apple Vision Pro devices at launch at no additional cost to the customer:

  • “Alicia Keys: Rehearsal Room” offers a rare glimpse into the Grammy winner’s creative process with this intimate rehearsal session featuring renditions of her hits “No One,” “If I Ain’t Got You,” and “You Don’t Know My Name.” Users can also access these performances as a special EP exclusively on Apple Music when it debuts.

  • “Adventure” follows pioneering athletes as they take on awe-inspiring challenges in some of the world’s most sensational locations. In the first episode, Highlining, viewers step into thin air with highliner Faith Dickey as she takes on her biggest challenge yet: a daring traverse 3,000 feet above Norway’s breathtaking fjords.

  • “Wild Life” takes viewers up close and personal with some of the most charismatic creatures on the planet to uncover what makes them unique, featuring the experts who know them best. The first episode brings viewers into the world’s largest rhinoceros sanctuary where a former police captain has dedicated her life to rescuing, raising, and rewilding these gentle giants.

  • “Prehistoric Planet Immersive”: The award-winning Apple Original docuseries from Jon Favreau and the producers of Planet Earth returns with an immersive film that transports viewers into the daily lives of dinosaurs, and follows the struggles and triumphs of these majestic animals amid spectacular scenery. Prehistoric Planet Immersive whisks viewers along a rugged ocean coast where a pterosaur colony settles in for an afternoon nap, which proves to be anything but restful.

If you’ve got an extra $3,500 hanging around, the Apple Vision Pro will be an amazing way to enjoy your favorite streaming titles, some of them in 3D. The headset will come with some of the best streaming apps on the market like Disney+, and will bring the virtual and physical worlds together for a hard-to-replicate mixed reality experience.
