Bally Sports+ Offers Credit to Users Affected by Outages Last Week

Users in several states found themselves unable to access their local NBA or NHL team via Bally Sports+ last week, and now the streamer is trying to make amends.

Is anything going right for Diamond Sports Group (DSG) these days? The company has been under the shelter of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protections since March, but its creditors are out of patience, and just last week its direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming service Bally Sports+ crashed for users in several states.

  • Bally Sports+ sent an email to customers offering them a seven-day credit in response to last week’s outage.
  • Linear Bally Sports customers did not experience any issues during the malfunction.
  • Diamond Sports recently received an offer from parent company Sinclair Broadcasting to buy the Bally Sports collection of regional sports networks for pennies on the dollar.

What Happened with Bally Sports+ Last Week?

When Bally Sports+ experienced multiple outages last week, some customers thought the end of the service had potentially come. Multiple fanbases were affected by the failure of Bally Sports+, and though the service is back on now, there’s no way to give those fans the games they were forced to miss.

That’s why the streamer is trying to make up for the outage by giving affected users a seven-day credit that will be applied to their next bill. Bally Sports+ sent out an email to customers who went directly through the company’s website to subscribe to the service, saying unforeseen issues stemming from a recent update caused the outage and that they wanted the chance to prove it was a one-time mistake.

“We will not promise perfection but truly our mission is to deliver an improved experience because the teams and their fans deserve it,” the email reads. “We hope to earn back your trust in time.”

Users who did not see an email from Bally Sports+ but were affected by the outages can head to help.ballysports.com to see if they can also access the seven-day credit offer.

Will Bally Sports Channels Survive the NBA and NHL Seasons?

Bally Sports regional sports networks (RSNs) and Bally Sports+ cover 15 NBA teams and 12 NHL teams around the United States. But as those leagues get back to action for the regular season, there have been questions as to whether the broadcaster will survive and be able to pay all the rights fees it owes to those teams.

Diamond Sports’ parent company Sinclair Broadcasting Group has made a bargain-bin offer to buy the Bally Sports RSNs. Diamond would likely resist that offer, as corporate relations between the two entities are terrible at best, currently. But at a certain point, it may find itself with few or no other options.

The long-term survival of Bally Sports+ is very much in doubt, but the streamer likely won’t shut down completely without at least a bit of advanced warning. Temporary outages are another story, however, and Bally Sports+ subscriber should check their email to see if they’ve received an offer for a seven-day credit to their account thanks to last week’s service disruptions.

Bally Sports+

Bally Sports+ is a direct-to-consumer streaming service that offers live games for those who want access to your local Bally Sports RSN without subscribing to a cable or satellite package.

The service has two plans: a monthly plan for $19.99 a month, or an annual plan for $189.99 per year ($15.83/mo pre-paid annually), after a 7-Day Free Trial.

In areas where fans have access to more than one Bally sports network, an optional bundle allows the addition of a second channel. The monthly total for two RSNs is $29.99/month.

With the service, you can stream your local games from 16 NBA teams and 12 NHL teams.

In addition to NHL and NBA, there are five MLB teams available to stream: Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers, Miami Marlins, Kansas City Royals, and Tampa Bay Rays. Sinclair has yet to get approval from MLB to stream the rest of the teams that they own the traditional broadcast rights for.

The service is only intended for those who live in-market to their local teams. If you live out-of-market, you will need to subscribe to MLB.TV (MLB), NHL.TV via ESPN+ (NHL), or NBA League Pass (NBA).
