CBS News Gearing Up to Launch Whip-Around Style Streaming News Show

The show will leverage the wide network of CBS News assets, using reporting from local and national stations.

The 2024 U.S. presidential election could be one of the most consequential in the country’s history. Ahead of November’s critical vote, news providers are shoring up their content slates and making sure they can reach as large an audience as possible with information they need to know. CBS News is already one of the most trusted names in the business, and Variety reports that it is supplementing its coverage by adding a new streaming news show that covers all of a day’s most important story with a whip-around style.

  • The new show will be called “CBS News 24/7,” and will use reporting from local and national CBS stations.
  • In addition, current streaming news programs will be expanded, and a late-night roundup show will be added.
  • The CBS News streaming channel can be found on Paramount+, Pluto TV and other outlets.

The report from Variety indicates that the new “CBS News 24/7” will be the name of the new show, and will also replace the name of the current “CBS News” streaming channel. The show will be a whip-around presentation of the day’s top stories, allowing viewers to see only the most consequential events happening around the United States. It will leverage reporting from CBS’s national news operation, as well as from local stations around the country.

“’CBS News 24/7’ is a decidedly ambitious evolution of our streaming efforts,” Wendy McMahon, president and CEO CBS News and Stations said in a statement. “Data backs up our bet on a fresh, timely, and distinctive approach to breaking news and live coverage. Our audiences crave it, and we’re in the best position to deliver it.”

In addition to the whip-around news show, the CBS News streaming channel will be expanding shows led by its anchor John Dickerson. “America Decides” will grow from 30 minutes to an hour starting on April 22, and Dickerson’s “Primetime” newscast will expand to 90 minutes alongside a renaming to “The Daily Report with John Dickerson.” The channel will also add a new, late-night program which airs at 1 a.m. ET called “CBS News Roundup” to run through the day’s top headlines before a new day begins.

The CBS News streaming channel is available to watch at no cost on Pluto TV, Paramount’s free ad-supported streaming service. Viewers can also find localized CBS News channels, on-demand episodes of news-themed programs like “60 Minutes” and “48 Hours” and much more content in the “News” tab on Paramount+. Customers who subscribe to Paramount+ with SHOWTIME get access to a 24/7 stream of their local CBS station to get even more news coverage.

Which Other Streamers Carry News Content?

Many free streaming services carry streaming news networks akin to CBS News. Viewers can watch free news streaming channels by downloading the ABC app as well, and free news streaming platforms like Local Now and Haystack News provide local coverage that cord-cutters might otherwise miss out on.

Peacock is a great subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service for streaming live news. Its Premium Plus subscription tier allows viewers to watch a livestream of their local NBC station, and viewers can also see on-demand episodes of shows like “Morning Joe” and “Inside with Jen Psaki” alongside beloved titles like “Dateline.”

Fox Nation is closely affiliated with the Fox News brand, and it offers some news content, such as on-demand episodes of “Hannity.” The streamer is primarily focused on lifestyle content, but conservative viewers can still find a selection of the news programming they most want to see with this platform.

Finally, Max carries a big range of live and on-demand content from CNN in its “CNN Max” hub, which is available to all subscribers of the service at no extra cost. Especially in an election year, it’s important for viewers to know where they can find the news they trust, with or without a cable subscription. CBS News is helping to make that goal easier to achieve by launching its new, whip-around style news show on platforms like Paramount+ and Pluto TV.

Paramount Plus

Paramount+ is a subscription video streaming service that includes on-demand access to 40,000+ TV show episodes from BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. and more. The lineup includes “1883,” “Tulsa King,” “Star Trek: Discovery,” Nickelodeon’s “SpongeBob SquarePants,” and “PAW Patrol.” Subscribers can watch the NFL, college football, The Masters, college basketball, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa, Serie A, and NWSL. The service also offers the option to watch your live CBS affiliate. The upgraded ad-free package includes premium movies and shows from Showtime.

Subscribers can choose between the Essential Plan (which includes ads) for $5.99/month, or go commercial-free and add more movies with Paramount+ with SHOWTIME for $11.99/month.

Subscribers to the more expensive plan will also get access to your local CBS affiliate to stream your local news, prime-time lineup, and late-night. You will also be able to download offline and watch select shows in 4K.

With the lower-cost “Essential” plan, you will still be able to watch live NFL games, Champions League, and national news – but you will no longer get your local CBS affiliate.

With their new app, enjoy advanced recommendations, curated homepages, and new content categories while still being able to stream major live sports like NFL, College Football, College Basketball. Sports fans will also appreciate the service’s inclusion of NFL on CBS, PGA Tour, along with every match of UEFA Champions League and Serie A.

The service was previously called CBS All Access.
