DEAL ALERT: Save Up to 50% on Movies, TV Shows on Prime Video Including ‘Across the Spider-Verse,’ ‘Strays,’ More

As streaming prices continue to rise, and more and more streaming services drop titles from their libraries, it’s worth considering whether it makes more sense to simply buy a digital version of your favorite movie or TV show so that you never have to worry about whether or not you will be able to watch it again. If that sounds like a good idea to you, Prime Video has dropped an early Black Friday deal that might be right up your alley. Head to the Prime Video store and you’ll find steep discounts on some of the most popular movies and TV shows up to 50% off the normal price! The one catch is that — as of publication time — you must be a Prime Video member to receive these discounts. However, they are expected to be extended to non-members as well before Black Friday, but The Streamable was unable to confirm with Amazon the exact rollout plan.

What Movies and TV Shows Are Currently Discounted in the Prime Video Store?

Amazon is making a large selection of titles available at a discount to rent and/or buy in its Prime Video store in advance of Black Friday. Some shows and movies are available for as low as $3.99 and many are up to 50% off. Some of the most popular titles that are currently discounted are “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “Strays,” “Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken,” “Bring It On,” “John Wick,” “Knives Out,” “Sisu,” “The Devil Wears Prada,” “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” “The Godfather,” “The Hunger Games,” “Pulp Fiction,” “Good Will Hunting,” and more.

Head over to the Prime Video store to check out all of the deals that are currently available on films and series, but you need to hurry as the deal is only available through Nov. 23.

Why Should You Buy Digital Movies and TV Shows?

One of the initial promises of streaming was that you would have never-ending access to the complete access to the full collection of essentially all entertainment media ever created. However, as streaming grew from just Netflix and Prime Video to every studio having their own service, it became more and more difficult (and more and more expensive) to maintain access to all of the shows and movies that you want to watch on a regular basis.

That has only been exacerbated over the past two years as media companies attempted to pivot from focusing exclusively on subscriber acquisition to actually turning a profit. Therefore, led by Warner Bros. Discovery, streaming services have been removing their own original shows and movies in an effort to cut costs. The idea is that they only remove titles that generate minimal amounts of traffic, which works in the abstract, but it can be devastating to someone who happens to love the specific niche title that gets dropped from a service.

That is why physical media — DVDs and Bluray discs — are experiencing a resurragance right now and why buying or renting a digital copy of a show or movie you love can help guard against the pain and confusion of no longer having streaming access to your favorite titles.

Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video is a subscription video streaming service that includes on-demand access to 10,000+ movies, TV shows, and Prime Originals like “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” “Jack Ryan,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “The Boys,” and more. Subscribers can also add third-party services like Max, Showtime, STARZ, and dozens more with Amazon Prime Video Channels. Prime Video also offers exclusive live access to NFL Thursday Night Football.

The Prime Video interface shows content included with your subscription alongside the ad-supported Freevee library and some shows and movies you need to purchase, so be sure to double-check your selection before you watch.

Prime Video is included with Amazon Prime for $14.99 per month ($139 per year), or can be purchased on its own for $8.99 per month.
