Update: Fubo Loses New York Mets Channel SportsNet NY; Where Else Can You Watch the Mets?

Fubo and SportsNet NY failed to come to a new carriage deal.

If you’re a Fubo subscriber who needs SportsNet NY, it’s time for Plan B. The live TV streaming service, which is well-known for providing its customers with a wide range of regional sports networks, lost the New York Mets broadcaster SportsNet NY last night.

  • A carriage dispute has knocked SportsNet NY off Fubo for an indefinite period of time.
  • Fubo avoided a carriage deal with Nexstar earlier this year but could be feeling a financial pinch.
  • Hulu + Live TV and DIRECTV STREAM are the best alternatives available for streaming SportsNet NY.

The 2024 MLB season is less than two weeks old, and already the first major issue between a channel distributor and a regional sports network has cropped up. There are few details available regarding the potential schism between Fubo and SportsNet NY, but as with the vast majority of carriage disputes, it’s likely that SportsNet NY is asking for an increase in fees that Fubo is hesitant to pay, lest it has to pass the cost of those increases on to customers.

That’s exactly what happened when Fubo made a new carriage deal with Nexstar in early 2024. The aftermath of that agreement saw Fubo’s prices rise by $5 per month for all customers. In this case, Fubo might consider hiking subscription rates for New York-area customers if it ends up having to pay SportsNet NY’s higher fees, as a price increase on all customers for a regional sports network (RSN) that most of them don’t get would likely cause a much bigger cancel reaction than Fubo wants to grapple with.

A Fubo spokesperson tells The Streamable, “Fubo and SNY were unable to reach a new agreement despite our best efforts to do so. As a result, SNY left Fubo yesterday (April 9, 2024). Mets fans can watch games on Fubo through PIX11 (NYC CW station), ESPN, FOX, MLB Network and MLB.TV, depending on their location.” Fubo created a Help Center article that reflects this information.

Just a few days ago, Fubo added YES Network, home of the Yankees.

Fubo may not have a ton of extra cash to go around these days. It now has to come up with the money to pursue a lawsuit against Disney, Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery, the goal of which is to prevent a joint venture sports streaming service from the three companies from reaching the market. Fubo considers the JV an existential threat, but it may have to sink considerable resources into the case, and it still may not lead to victory.

Where Else Can You Stream SportsNet NY?

Carriage disputes are one of the most annoying parts of being a pay-TV subscriber, whether you’re signed up for a live TV streaming service or a traditional cable/satellite plan. Fortunately, Fubo customers who cancel their subscription to the streamer if it drops SportsNet NY will have options to replace it.
