Fubo Unveils New User Interface Updates with Changes to Channel Guide, Remote Functions, More

Whatever else can be said about the engineers at Fubo, customers can hardly complain that they’re an unresponsive lot. Just weeks after the release of an update that brought some big changes to its user interface, Fubo announced on Friday a new wave of refurbishments that its users can expect to see rolled out in the next few weeks.

  • Fubo users can now hold the back button on their remote to navigate to the previous channel.
  • Users can also use the Fast Forward/Rewind buttons to browse through the live guide faster.
  • Engineers promise faster loading times and less buffering.

What’s New on Fubo?

The new version of Fubo’s app will offer some fantastic updates that will make finding and watching something new much simpler. Fubo has numbered the update version 5.1, and it’s partially intended to help de-bug issues that cropped up when version 5.4.1 first became available in early October.

Users can now hold down the Back button on their remote when watching Fubo to return to the previous channel they were watching. This is especially helpful for sports lovers who are watching two games at a time on different channels and want to be able to switch between channels in an instant.

In addition to that feature, v. 5.1 has some innovative updates that make surfing the Fubo channel guide much easier. These include:

  • The ability to scroll between days (I.E., past midnight) without using the Browse by date button.
  • The ability to use the Fast Forward and Rewind buttons to scroll through the page more quickly.
  • When focused in the Channels column (far left column) these buttons will page up and down the guide.
  • When focused on any Program cell, these buttons will page left and right on the timeline.
  • The Back button on the remote control will jump you to the Channels column from any of the Program cells.
  • The Replay button on the remote will now jump you back to the current time.
  • The guide now automatically advances to the next day after midnight.

Fubo representatives also say the new app will load faster and cut down on buffering times, allowing viewers to start watching their favorite live sporting event or chosen TV series as quickly as possible. In addition, some missing translations have been fixed for users of Fubo’s Latino plan.

These new updates could help Fubo improve its standings relative to its competitors in terms of customer satisfaction. Fubo was the lowest-rated live TV streaming service in this metric according to a recent J.D. Power survey. However, it still beats out traditional cable by a comfortable margin.

Fubo

Fubo is a live TV streaming service with about 90 top channels that start at $79.99 per month. This plan includes local channels, 19 of the top 35 cable channels, and regional sports networks (RSNs). In total, you should expect to pay about $94.99 per month, after adding in their RSN Fee. Fubo was previously known as “fuboTV.”

The streaming service does not carry channels from WarnerMedia-owned (CNN, TBS, and TNT), A+E (A&E, History Channel, and Lifetime), and AMC Networks (AMC, BBC America, and WE tv). So, in our experience, if you are looking to watch the NBA, which heavily plays on TBS and TNT, you may want to look at another live TV streaming provider.

But for other sports fans, especially those who want to stream local sports, Fubo is a great option in our opinion. They recently announced adding Bally Sports RSNs to their channel lineup and it is the least expensive option to get RSNs in many markets like Altitude, AT&T Sports, Fox Sports, Marquee, MSG, NBC Sports, and NESN. (Take a look at the full list of Fubo’s sports channels.)

Fubo also includes MLB Network, NBA TV, NFL Network, NFL RedZone , NHL Network, and beIN Sports (which is not available on most services). You can add Fox Soccer Plus as part of the International Sports Plus add-on for $6/month.

You can add the fubo Extra ($8) to add ~37 channels including GSN.
