HBO Max Will Stream Rick and Morty Starting in May 2020
At today’s WarnerMedia Day, AT&T revealed that all three seasons of Rick and Morty that have aired to date will be available to viewers on the service when HBO Max launches in the US in May 2020. Future seasons of Rick and Morty will continue to premiere on Adult Swim before streaming on HBO Max. The non-exclusive deal will continue to see existing and future episodes also remain available on Hulu.
“Rick and Morty exploded onto the scene in 2013 and quickly drew a legion of rabid followers from both critics and young fans,” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer, HBO Max and president TBS, TNT, truTV. “The jokes come fast and frenetically in a smart comedy concoction we are so happy to deliver on HBO Max.”
Today, HBO Max also announced that South Park would be moving from Hulu to HBO Max next June.
Streamers have been eager to get rights for legacy TV show. It started with WarnerMedia taking Friends back from Netflix and moving the show to HBO Max, then in June, it was announced that The Office will be moving to NBCU’s Peacock, along with Parks and Recreation. HBO Max then made news when it got exclusive streaming rights to The Big Bang Theory and Netflix soon made their own headlines with the purchase of Seinfeld rights.
