How to Use Amazon Fire TV’s New AI Voice Search

The new Fire TV search experience allows viewers to ask pinpoint-specific questions to find the show or movie they’re looking for.

National Streaming Day on May 20 may not be officially recognized as a bank holiday, but many retailers decided to celebrate with big discounts on top streaming devices. Amazon had some fantastic offers available on its Fire TV streaming sticks and smart TVs, and viewers who took advantage of the sales are likely still getting to know the ins and outs of their new device. Fire TV has recently launched a new, generative AI search function that will make it much easier for viewers to navigate to a new show or movie, and I’ll walk you through how to use it.

Key Details:

  • Viewers can use the generative AI search to look for shows and movies across multiple streaming services.
  • Users can search with hyper-specific phrases to narrow down their search much more quickly.
  • The generative AI search is another way for Amazon to personalize the Fire TV user interface.

The generative AI search function from Amazon is powered by a large language model that lets viewers search using natural phrases and sentences. You’ll be able to ask Alexa for a TV or movie recommendation the same way that you might ask a friend with deep media knowledge when a title is on the tip of your tongue, but you just can’t come up with it.

To use the new AI search, simply press the microphone button on your Fire TV remote to ask Alexa for a recommendation. Then use whichever phrase comes naturally to look for the title you’re seeking! You can use Fire TV’s new AI search to look for titles by topic, genre, or any other phrase that comes to mind!

Search by topic:

  • “Find sci-fi TV shows about alternate universes.”
  • “Show me classic comedy series about the workplace.”

Search by genre:

  • “Find British horror films.”
  • “Find me police procedural shows.”

Search by plot:

  • “Find the mystery movie set in a glass house.”
  • “Show me movies where people get sucked into a comic book.”

Search by quote:

  • “What movie has the line, ‘Use the Force, Luke?’”
  • “Find me the show where someone says, ‘How you doin’?’”

The new Fire TV generative AI search is rolling out on all devices using FOS6. Customers who do not see the new search feature available now will see it come to their smart TV or streaming stick in the next few weeks.

The Fire TV interface is highly tuned to the specific user, and the generative AI search feature is just another way for Amazon to help customize the devices. In December, Fire TV sets and sticks rolled out their “Continue Watching” row, allowing viewers to pick up precisely where they left off with shows and movies from Disney+, Hulu, Max, Prime Video, STARZ, and other partner services directly from the Fire TV home screen.

A recent survey found that 63% of Americans spend six minutes or more trying to find something new to watch when they turn on the TV. Fire TV’s new AI-powered search feature will help slash that browsing time, allowing viewers to stop looking and start watching as soon as possible.
