About 2024 NHL Stadium Series
First, the stakes. While the 2024 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series is a great opportunity for fans to enjoy the incredible experience of an outdoor game, for the players, the stakes are much higher. For Saturday’s game, the Flyers sit third in the Metropolitan Division at the time of this writing, while the Devils sit just outside the playoff picture, trailing the Detroit Red Wings by two points for the final Wild Card spot in the East. New Jersey will get a bump though, as star Jack Hughes returns from an 11-game absence due to injury, so expect a desperate Devils team to put everything on the line for two points. For Sunday’s matchup, the Rangers sit first in the Metro, second in the Eastern Conference, and have set themselves up nicely for a playoff run. The Islanders, though, will need a big push in what’s left of the season to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They sit with 57 points, three points back of Detroit for the final Wild Card in the East. That may not seem like much but in the age of the “Bettman Point” (one point for an overtime appearance), it’s a mountain that needs climbing.
Next, the spectacle. Both games will be played at MetLife Stadium – home to the New York Giants and New York Jets of the NFL. Prior to the drop of the puck on Saturday, the Jonas Brothers will headline a pre-game concert, as well as perform during the second intermission of the game. For the broadcast, expect awesome aerial coverage of all the action, along with a Skycam, on-ice skatecam and virtual graphics. There will also be a cool “Best Seat in the House” location at ice level, where special guests will join the telecast throughout the day.
For both outdoor games, it’ll be Sean McDonough handling the play-by-play, joined by Ray Ferraro (usually between the benches) as an analyst, with Emily Kaplan and Kevin Weekes reporting from around the rink. In the studio, it’ll be Steve Levy, legend Mark Messier, P.K. Subban, and Arda Öcal keeping viewers entertained.
