Is ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ Streaming Now? When Will it Be Available on Max?

The latest installment in Warner Bros. Discovery’s MonsterVerse franchise is rolling out in cinemas this weekend.

Make sure you order the extra-large popcorn at the concession stands this weekend if you go to your local theater to catch “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” This movie could be the ultimate popcorn flick, and it officially hits cinemas in the United States on Friday, March 29.

  • Critics say the new “Godzilla x Kong” is a bit silly at times, but is also packed with monster fighting action.
  • As a Warner Bros. Pictures film, “Godzilla x Kong” will stream on Max once it leaves theaters.
  • The film will not follow the release schedule of “Godzilla vs. Kong,” which got a day-and-date release on streaming.

“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” picks up after the events of “Godzilla vs. Kong.” Following their explosive showdown and eventual team-up against Mechagodzilla, Godzilla and Kong must reunite against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and the existence of humanity.

The movie currently sports a 54% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but 92% of audiences who have seen the film in preview screenings have given it their approval. Reviewers praise “Godzilla x Kong” for delivering exactly what audiences go to that kind of movie to see: giant monsters slugging it out for supremacy.

When Will ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ Be Available to Stream?

Because Warner Bros. Pictures is distributing “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” in the United States, it’s a sure thing that the movie will stream on Max once it’s done in theaters and on premium video-on-demand (PVOD) services like Prime Video that allow viewers to digitally rent moves that are still in cinemas. We know that the movie won’t follow the same pattern as its predecessor “Godzilla vs. Kong,” which was released on HBO Max the same day it was released in theaters in 2021.

All 2021 Warner Bros. movies followed the same strategy, as the COVID-19 pandemic made heading to theaters an undesirable proposition for most audiences. That was under the leadership of former Warner chief Jason Kilar, however; current WBD CEO David Zaslav has no interest in abbreviated theatrical windows for movies, and has made that position clear time and time again.

Still, it’s unlikely that “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” will reach the blockbusters status of “Dune: Part Two,” which The Streamable’s experts expect won't be available on Max until late July. The new “Godzilla x Kong” will likely follow a shorter path to Max, albeit one that still gives the film plenty of time to earn back its production and marketing budgets in theaters and on PVOD platforms.

Ultimately, we expect “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” to wait around 70 days before becoming available to stream on Max. That would peg its debut date as Friday, June 7, giving viewers an excellent summertime flick to watch as the warm months get underway.
