Max Launching New App Including Digital Environment for Apple Vision Pro Headset

Users of the new mixed reality headset from Apple will be able to transform their world into the Iron Throne room from “House of the Dragon.”

Is the Apple Vision Pro set to be the next big thing in virtual reality? Apple is certainly banking on the device to be just that, as it has lined up more than 600 new apps designed specifically to run on the Vision Pro’s new operating system (OS) before the headset launches on Feb. 2. Max is one of the apps built specially to operate on the Apple Vision Pro, and the streamer is including one immersive digital environment that will be ready when the device hits the market.

  • Apple Vision Pro buyers will be able to use the Iron Throne room digital environment on the Max app.
  • Disney+ is another streamer that allows customers to enjoy a mixed reality environment when using the headset.
  • Netflix has declined to create a new app for the Apple Vision Pro’s operating system for now.

What Features Will Max App on Apple Vision Pro Offer?

The Max app on Apple Vision Pro will include one mixed reality environment for fans to play around in when the headset launches. Subscribers can immerse themselves in the Iron Throne room from “House of the Dragon,” surrounding themselves with the trappings of the Targaryen dynasty while they browse for something new to stream on the service.

If you’re a customer of Max’s Ultimate tier ($19.99 per month), you can also use the Apple Vision Pro’s built-in Spatial Audio system to stream titles with Dolby Atmos audio for top-quality sound. The Apple Vision Pro also supports a 4K display, so any titles available on the Max Ultimate plan in that resolution can be streamed in Ultra-High-Definition.

“With the Max app for Apple Vision Pro, fans can transform their space using the Iron Throne Room environment for an immersive experience that brings viewers into the iconic Red Keep,” said Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content. “The intricate Targaryen-era adornments will make fans feel like they’re watching the programming available on Max in Westeros during the height of their reign.”

Which Other Streamers Allow Fans to Enjoy Digital Mixed Reality Environments on Apple Vision Pro?

Disney+ was one of the first streaming services to announce its partnership with Apple on the Vision Pro. That streamer will provide four digital environments for Apple Vision Pro customers to enjoy, so it’s a possibility the Iron Throne room environment on Max will just be the first of many to come.

One streamer who won’t create a dedicated app for the Vision Pro’s OS is Netflix. Netflix announced in January that it would not make a new app for the Vision Pro headset and that subscribers who wanted to watch the service on the device would have to navigate to it through the web browser instead.

Disney+ and Max are clearly more convinced that Vision Pro will be a success than Netflix is, and consumers won’t have to wait much longer to find out who’s right. The Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset hits retailers on Feb. 2 and will retail for $3,499.
