NBA, WNBA League Pass Coming to Peloton Devices This Season

Users of Peloton exercise equipment will soon be able to enjoy live basketball while they work out.

Peloton users usually don’t need any extra motivation to get their workout in. A guided Peloton session is already one of the most intensive workouts there is, but starting in 2023 owners of compatible Peloton machines will be able to hold themselves up against some of the best athletes in the world, performing in real-time.

  • Peloton users will be able to watch NBA League Pass and WNBA League Pass on their machines starting this season.
  • Other custom content, including health and fitness tips from trainers and NBA coaches will also be available on the NBA app.
  • The NBA is also preparing for negotiations for its next broadcasting contract.

Pass the Rock!

Peloton has announced a new deal with the NBA and WNBA that will allow customers who subscribe to NBA League Pass and WNBA League Pass to use the services while working out on their Peloton equipment. Starting this season, League Pass subscribers will be able to navigate to the Entertainment tab on their screen and log into their account to watch live out-of-market games while they exercise.

In addition to live games on Peloton machines, the partnership will also lead to new content available on the NBA app. The “NBA Fitness” content initiative will cover a wide variety of health and fitness topics, including tips from NBA training staff and coaches on how to condition, mental wellness, and other important aspects of the sport. The deal will also include the creation of NBA and WNBA-themed classes for users to get their sweat on to. More WNBA content will be created for Peloton machines as the start of the 2024 season approaches in the spring.

“Peloton is the ideal partner to tip off the launch of NBA Fitness, our new platform to engage our fans’ affinity for health and wellness,” NBA SVP Scott Kaufman-Ross said. “We look forward to leveraging Peloton’s leadership in the space as we create co-branded fitness classes with both the NBA and WNBA, bring original content to the NBA App and make NBA League Pass available on Peloton devices.”

So far, the Peloton Bike/Bike+, Tread/Tread+, and Row have been confirmed as being compatible with NBA League Pass, and more devices could be added to the list.

Where Else Will NBA Games Be Available in the Future?

The NBA is gearing up for more negotiations in the near future. The league’s current broadcast deals with ESPN and TNT are set to expire following the 2024-25 season, and once they do it could be on the hunt for a big raise. A recent report indicates the NBA may have a smaller presence on linear TV in its next deal, with more games headed to streaming.

Prime Video and Apple TV+ are the two most-mentioned services linked with the NBA so far, but there’s a possibility that NBA games end up on ESPN+, Peacock, or in other new locations. The sky seems to be the limit for the league as things stand now, though once it actually sits down with media outlets to get a deal done it may come back to Earth a bit.
