Paramount+ Coming to Mexico, Canada, Other Countries in November; Ad-Supported Tier Launches in 2024

Paramount’s flagship streaming service will soon be available in more global territories, building on the international expansion it first started last year.

The expansion of Paramount+ from a domestic to a global streaming service is proceeding. The streamer made its way to Europe in 2022 and is now preparing to spread its reach to North, Central, and South American territories that have not had access to the platform up to now.

  • Paramount+ will launch its Premium tier in Australia, Brazil, Canada and Mexico in November.
  • The ad-supported Essential tier will be available in early 2024 in these areas.
  • The service first began expanding to France, Germany, Austria, and other European countries in 2022.

Where is Paramount+ Expanding Now?

Starting Nov. 16, Paramount+ Premium will be available in Australia, Brazil, Canada and Mexico. This plan will not include commercials, though it’s unclear if it will offer the same Showtime content that the ad-free tier of Paramount+ in the United States does. The plan will offer 4K Ultra-High-Definition streaming for some titles, HDR10 and Dolby Vision support, and the ability to stream on up to four devices simultaneously.

Pricing will be as follows: $13.99 AUD monthly, $124.99 AUD annually in Australia; $R 34.90 monthly, $R 309.90 annually in Brazil; $13.99 CAD monthly, $124.99 CAD annually in Canada; $179 MXN monthly, $1609 MXN annually in Mexico. The cheaper, ad-supported Paramount+ Essential plan will launch in Australia and Canada in 2024, while Mexico and Brazil will offer mobile-only plans instead for a lower-priced option.

“After expanding our footprint to more than 45 markets last year, we are focused on scaling our business and providing customer choice,” said Marco Nobili, EVP and International GM at Paramount+. “Following the launch of the Mobile plan in Mexico and Brazil, the introduction of the Premium and Ad-supported plans will give us the ability to better serve different consumer segments by providing multiple pricing options while also tapping into tremendous opportunities among our advertising and brand partners.”

Fifty Countries and Counting

The latest round of countries to get Paramount+ brings the count of territories with access to the service to over 50. In fall of 2022, the streamer began its European expansion, first making its way to Italy in September before launching in France, Germany and Austria in December. The expansions have helped Paramount+ climb to 61 million global users.

But that doesn’t mean Paramount executives are completely deaf to a great offer for the company. The company is and has been up for sale at the right price, so it wouldn’t be a total shock to see Paramount+ and its international customer base acquired by another media company in the future.
