Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’ Film to Be Available Digitally on Her Birthday; When Will It Be on Streaming Services?

The contract for the film’s theatrical release had made it seem like it wouldn’t be available to stream until January, but apparently Swift had other plans in mind.

Taylor Swift loves her fans and between unannounced album drops, easter egg-laden social media clues, a fandom-spanning new high-profile relationship, and more, she is never not giving the Swifties things to be excited about. That continued on Monday as the global superstar announced that her record-breaking concern film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” would be available to rent digitally in the United States, Canada, and other countries on her birthday, Dec. 13.

  • “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” has grossed nearly $250 million dollars in theaters.
  • The singer-songwriter had initially approached studios to release the film, but was unable to make a deal, so she released it directly in AMC and Cinemark theaters.
  • The extended version of the film will be available to rent on Swift’s 34th birthday.

In a social media post, Swift announced that the extended version of “The Eras Tour” film would be available beginning on her 34th birthday, Wednesday, Dec. 13, and would include “Wildest Dreams,” “The Archer” and “Long Live,” three songs that did not appear in the original theatrical release.

Where Will You Be Able to Digitally Rent ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’?

The contract with AMC and Cinemark had originally stipulated that

Swift’s announcement did not indicate where the film will be available to rent, but it is likely that all of the major transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) platforms will want to get in on the action. So, in The Streamable’s expert opinion, we believe that it is likely that you will be able to rent “The Eras Tour” on Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, and more.

However, given the fact that so many of the major studios declined the opportunity to partner with Swift on the initial release of the film, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that she might decide to upend the traditional distribution process again and release it directly from her website or an under the radar platform. Veeps is a streaming service that is specifically dedicated to bringing concert productions to fans around the world. While it is unlikely that “The Eras Tour” would stream there, perhaps a more niche service would give Swift more control over how the film becomes available to her fans.

When Will Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’ Film Be on a Streaming Service?

While Taylor Swift's

Before this announcement, The Streamable's expert prediction was that the film would stream on Netflix likely sometime in January, after the contractually agreed upon window between Swift and AMC and Cinemark. However, with her birthday in December, it seems like the world’s biggest pop artist has moved that streaming window up by a month.

Due to the fact that no major studio was willing to make a deal with Swift to distribute the film, the superstar and her team agreed to a contract with cinema operators AMC and Cinemark to screen the film exclusively. In that original deal, Swift agreed to not move the “The Eras Tour” film to streaming for 13 weeks after its theatrical debut. Since the film opened wide on Oct. 13, 2023, that would mean that 13 weeks later would be Jan. 12, 2024, which is when The Streamable predicted that it would be available to stream.

However, Monday’s announcement that it will be available to rent digitally after less than nine weeks, does complicate our ability to predict when and where it will stream. As high-profile films move to TVOD platforms, if they continue to make substantial money there, that will often delay when they move to a subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service like Netflix or Disney+.

Therefore, while it is still possible that “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” could be available on a streaming service on Jan. 12, 2024, it appears to be less likely now. Netflix already is the home to the artist’s “Reputation Stadium Tour” film and the “Miss Americana” documentary, while you can stream “Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions” on Disney+.

So, with this new digital release, based on our seven years of expertise in the streaming world, The Streamable now predicts that “The Eras Tour” will be available on a streaming service on another important day for all Swifties, Valentine’s Day.
