Plex unveils user reviews, new public profiles, more features
The multi-faceted media service Plex is rolling out some fantastic updates for subscribers.
Plex is continuing to evolve. The service offers free streaming content galore, but there’s much more than just live and on-demand TV shows and movies to Plex. It allows users to create their own private media servers, and on Wednesday it announced a series of updates that should help its subscribers get even more out of their accounts.
Key Details:
- Plex customers can now write TV and movie reviews that are visible to every other Plex user.
- Subscribers can now make their Plex profiles publicly accessible.
- A new user experience on tvOS devices is rolling out in a preview version.
To start, Plex is updating a feature that it first rolled out in October 2024. As of today, customer reviews can now be seen by every other Plex user. Subscribers can also comment on other Plex reviews to supplement the details left by another reviewer.
Additionally, Plex viewers can now make their user profiles publicly accessible if they wish. By visiting watch.plex.tv, customers can share links to their profiles, allowing other users to see what they’ve been watching, what they plan to watch in the future, their reviews, and more.
The service is also giving viewers a preview of its updated user interface on select devices. Testing for the new experience is rolling out on Apple TV devices to start, so Plex can generate user feedback on what’s working, and what needs to be tweaked. This new user interface will roll out on other devices that stream Plex at a later date.
Finally, Plex is unveiling a new perk for Plex Pass subscribers. High-efficiency video coding (HVEC) is now available to Plex Pass customers, allowing them to enjoy better video quality while saving bandwidth. Plex first rolled this feature out as a preview in September, but now all Plex Pass owners can access it.
As they always could, Plex users can still access the unique features of a Plex account. The platform can be used to create your own private media server, watch thousands of on-demand titles, search across all your streaming subscriptions to find the title you want to watch, and that’s just a short list of the abilities Plex offers.
