‘Severance’ Season 1 has made $200 million for Apple so far
New data shows the series is a big driver of subscription dollars on Apple TV+.
How much money does Lumon Industries pull in each year from its severance operations? That question may be hard to answer, but new data shows that the fictional company is generating real dollars for Apple. Lumon is the company at the heart of the Apple TV+ original series “Severance,” and new data from Parrot Analytics, as reported by Deadline, shows the series has brought in hundreds of millions of dollars for its parent company so far.
Key Details:
- Season 1 of “Severance” has generated $200 million for Apple so far.
- Nearly half of this revenue was brought in 12 months after the Season 1 finale, showing the staying power of “Severance.”
- The show compares favorably to other Apple TV+ hits like “The Morning Show” and “Slow Horses.”
The data from Parrot shows that the first season of “Severance” has pulled in more than $200 million for Apple since its release in 2022. The analytics firm calculated this number via a formula that correlates audience demand with subscribers. The Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) and Latin America regions have seen the biggest contributions from “Severance.”
Almost half of the $200 million+ in revenue generated by the first season of “Severance” was created in the 12 months after the show’s Season 1 finale premiered. That demonstrates its staying power, and its ability to keep viewers subscribed to Apple TV+ even though new episodes weren’t being released.
The numbers compare well to other popular originals from Apple TV+. “The Morning Show” Season 1 has brought in $299.4 million to date, but over a much longer period of time. “Slow Horses” has had a gestation period around as long as “Severance,” and generated $184.8 million in revenue.
“Severance” Season 1 might not be done generating revenue for Apple, either. The show wasavailable to stream on The Roku Channel for free until Jan. 19, and Apple presumably collected not only a licensing fee for its trouble but also will collect a portion of the ad revenue created by putting the show on the free service.
Episode 1 of Season 2 of “Severance” is available to stream now on Apple TV+. New episodes will drop once per week every Friday until March.
