Stream Your Way: DIRECTV Introduces Customizable Streaming Profiles
The launch of user profiles was first announced by DIRECTV earlier this summer.
DIRECTV is making some news on Wednesday, though it’s not the news that customers have been waiting for. The company is still locked in a carriage dispute with Disney that is keeping channels like ABC, Disney Channel, ESPN, and FX blacked out for DIRECTV subscribers. However, that isn’t stopping DIRECTV from launching a new feature for customers of its streaming services DIRECTV STREAM and DIRECTV via Internet: user profiles. This new capability will provide customers with a far more customized viewing experience when they are watching DIRECTV without a satellite dish.
Key Details:
- User profiles will put customer-curated entertainment and on-demand recordings front and center.
- Viewers will be able to find their favorite sports teams at a glance on their profiles.
- Customers can create up to five user profiles on one DIRECTV account.
Choose $15 OFF each month for the first 2 months of Entertainment with Sports Pack or $20 OFF each month for the first 3 months of Choice or Ultimate.
The new user profile function was first teased by DIRECTV in June. It was still in the testing stages at that time, but now the new profiles are ready to roll out to a wider DIRECTV STREAM and DIRECTV via Internet audience. The feature is not available to DIRECTV satellite customers at this time.
The profiles feature allows DIRECTV streaming customers to more easily customize what they see, and make sure that what they want to watch is right in front of them when they turn the service on. Profile users get to curate their favorite entertainment and sports options specifically, choosing their favorite shows and teams and calling up cloud DVR recordings to appear on screen easily.
“The growing fragmentation of content across multiple apps and video services means it is increasingly more difficult for customers, especially with multiple at-home users, to find the shows and games they want,” DIRECTV’s SVP for product marketing Devin Merrill said. “DIRECTV’s ‘User Profiles’ declutters the experience by providing users in the same household who stream DIRECTV with a personalized view of the entertainment or sports content they love the most, all in one place, including scores and stats for their favorite teams.”
Profiles will also create customized homepage carousel recommendations and more. On-demand purchases and rentals will also be made available on DIRECTV’s new profiles, and DIRECTV subscribers can set up as many as five profiles to use on the same account.
Viewers will be able to use the profiles feature on numerous devices compatible with DIRECTV’s streaming services, including Gemini, Gemini Air, Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV, iPhones, iPads, Android Mobile and Tablet, Fire Tablet, and Web.
User profiles are a great way to make the watching experience more closely tailored to an individual’s preferences, and DIRECTV’s new function will make it far easier for households with multiple TV watchers to see the content they want the most without having to wade through the shows, movies and sports events that other family members are enjoying.
