Walmart+ vs. Amazon Prime: Which is Right For You?
Walmart+ vs. Amazon Prime: Which is Right For You?
The Walmart+ subscription service comes with a variety of great discounts, including free access to Paramount+.
Have you ever considered a Walmart+ subscription? If not, it may be time to give the service a long look. Walmart+ is a fantastic way to get free delivery with online shopping, including delivery from your local Walmart retailer. It also offers fuel deals, early access to promotional events, and a free subscription to Paramount+ with every account. There are some benefits of Walmart+ that even Amazon Prime can’t match, and I’ll compare the two services below to help you decide which is right for you!
Key Details:
- Walmart+ frequently offers streaming deals, like its current discount on a HISTORY Vault subscription.
- Prime Video has the edge on streaming selections, but Walmart+ may be the best option for free delivery.
- Both services are a great way to get electronics, groceries, and other essentials delivered to your front door.

Walmart+ vs. Amazon Prime: Streaming Options
Both Walmart+ and Amazon Prime come with their own streaming options included in their subscriptions. Walmart+ includes a free Paramount+ account with every subscription, and customers can upgrade to ad-free Paramount+ with SHOWTIME for an additional $6.49 per month. Outside of a Walmart+ account, this would cost $11.99 monthly. The free account allows viewers to watch shows like the upcoming final season of “SEAL Team,” titles from the pen of Taylor Sheridan like “Mayor of Kingstown” and “1923,” and every in-market NFL game appearing on their local CBS channel during the regular season.
Walmart+ also offers its members exclusive discounts on goods and services, including frequent streaming deals. At the moment, it’s offering a great deal on HISTORY Vault just in time for the start of the school year. You can watch the educational streaming service for just $0.99 per month for your first two months of service!
Amazon Prime, of course, features free access to Prime Video. Titles like “Citadel,” “Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan,” and “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” can be found there, alongside weekly NFL “Thursday Night Football” broadcasts. Prime Video also frequently carries streaming deals in its Prime Video Channels digital store, and, like Walmart+, routinely offers discounts on other streaming services. Amazon Prime gets the slight edge here, but only because it has a little more streaming variety than Walmart+ does currently.
Slight Edge: Amazon Prime
Walmart+ vs. Amazon Prime: Free Shipping and Delivery
Like Amazon Prime, Walmart+ offers free shipping with no minimum purchase required on orders. Walmart+ also offers various shipping options, including one, two, and three-day shipping on qualifying items. I’m going to give Walmart+ the edge here because, unlike Amazon Prime, it allows customers to enjoy free delivery from their local Walmart store, which cuts down on the waiting time for essential items.
Slight Edge: Walmart+
Walmart+ vs. Amazon Prime: Price
This is a very important factor for customers and may be the deciding one for many. Walmart+ has two subscription options: a monthly plan for $12.95, or an annual subscription for $98, which comes out to $8.17 per month. Walmart+ also comes with a 30-day free trial, so you can thoroughly test it out before committing your money.
Amazon Prime also allows customers to choose between monthly and annual plans, and it also comes with a 30-day free trial. The monthly option costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year. It is a small difference in the monthly costs between the two, but the advantage for Walmart+ becomes apparent when comparing the two annual plan prices.
Edge: Walmart+
Walmart+ vs. Amazon Prime: Extra Benefits
It’s very difficult to call a winner on this one. Walmart+ offers excellent discounts when fueling up at Walmart gas stations, as well as the ability to scan and go via mobile when shopping in-store. The service also provides early access to promotional events and sales, which can be very handy during busy shopping seasons.
Amazon Prime, on the other hand, comes with free access to Amazon Music and Prime Gaming, as well as exclusive savings when shopping at Whole Foods Market, not to mention annual Prime Days. It’s really all about personal taste here as to which benefits are best, so I’m calling this one a draw.
Edge: Push
Bottom Line
When reviewing the two services based on the factors listed above, it appears that Walmart+ has the slight advantage overall as seen in totality, but that can fluctuate depending on what you are most looking for. It’s hard to go wrong with either, however. Both Walmart+ and Amazon Prime offer great benefits to subscribers, including free access to a streaming service and frequent discounts on other streamers. Both are a convenient way to spend less time navigating parking lots and checkout lines, and more time watching the newest great show or movie on your favorite streamer.
