What Time Does ‘The Acolyte’ Premiere on Disney+?

Most Disney+ shows arrive on the streamer early in the morning so that fans can watch as soon as they wake up, but that won’t be the case for ‘The Acolyte.’

The Acolyte will premiere on Disney+ on June 4 at 9 p.m. ET

Did “The Acolyte” miss an opportunity to release on Star Wars Day? May the Fourth would have been a perfect opportunity to roll the show out and take full advantage of the joke, but for whatever reason Disney+ decided to wait another month and debut the new live-action Star Wars series on Tuesday, June 4. The show will differ from other major premieres on Disney+, in that it will release its first episode at a special time to help the series feel more like a major TV debut of old.

Key Details:

  • “The Acolyte” will release its first episode at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday, June 4.
  • Subsequent episodes will be available at the same time on subsequent Tuesdays.
  • There are no plans to release episodes of “The Acolyte” on Disney-owned cable channels as of now.

“The Acolyte” will follow an atypical release schedule for a Disney+ title. Most streaming services release new episodes of original shows between 12:01 a.m. and 3 a.m. ET, so that viewers will find them available when they wake up the next day. “The Acolyte” will debut new episodes each Tuesday at 9 p.m., starting with the bowing of the show’s first two episodes on June 4.

That release time will allow Disney+ to make “The Acolyte” feel more like a special event than just another original series. Episodes will debut in the heart of prime time each Tuesday evening, showing Disney has faith that viewers will set time aside each week to make the show appointment viewing.

Will ‘The Acolyte’ Air Any Episodes on Disney Cable Channels?

Disney cable channels have offered select episodes of Disney+ originals in the past, but that does not appear likely for The Acolyte.

There’s one experiment from Disney’s past that it doesn’t appear to be repeating for the debut of “The Acolyte,” despite the company’s belief that the show will be a hit. As of now, there doesn’t appear to be any plan to show episodes of “The Acolyte” on Disney-owned linear channels such as FX, Freeform, or ABC, though of course that could change in the future.

In the past, Disney has used its linear channels as a promotional tool to drive more customers to its streaming exclusives. Fellow Star Wars show “Andor” sent its first two episodes to Disney linear networks in November 2022, and did likewise for “The Santa Clauses” in December of the same year.

Recently, there has been talk that Disney might try to sell off some of its cable or broadcast channels as it continues to focus its video entertainment efforts on its streaming services and movie studio. But in early May, Disney CEO Bob Iger said the company’s linear channels were “deeply embedded” in its direct-to-consumer strategy, suggesting the company is no longer interested in parting with any of its linear networks for the time being.

None of those issues will have any effect on the release of “The Acolyte,” however. The show will premiere its first two episodes on Disney+ on Tuesday, June 4 at 9 p.m. ET, with new episodes debuting at the same time on subsequent Tuesdays.
