Can You Stream ‘Conclave’ At Home? When Will the Movie Come to Peacock?
The star-studded thriller is already receiving Oscar buzz, which could impact when it arrives on streaming.
Time to send up the black smoke! Ralph Fiennes’ new papal drama movie “Conclave” is hitting theaters on Friday, Oct. 25. The movie is already generating awards chatter around Hollywood which could impact when you will be able to watch it at home. So, we will run through all of the information you need in order to figure out when and where it will be available to stream.
Key Details:
- Critics and audiences alike are raving about “Conclave.”
- The film is distributed by Focus Features, which means it will head to Peacock first.
- The wait for other Focus Features movies has been a short one, but “Conclave” could change that.
Watch the Trailer for ‘Conclave’:
“Conclave” stars Fiennes as Cardinal-Dean Thomas Lawrence, who will lead the College of Cardinals as they attempt to select a new pope. The holy men in contention for the position are each ambitious and calculating, with differing views about the future of the church. Who will Lawrence throw his support behind?
Critics are saying “Conclave” may be the best work Ralph Fiennes has done in his long career. The film has a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and an 88% score from audiences who have managed to see a preview screening.
When Will ‘Conclave’ Be Available on Peacock?
“Conclave” is being distributed by Focus Features, which is itself a division of Universal. Both are owned by Comcast, which means that when “Conclave” is finished as an exclusive in theaters and on digital rental and purchase platforms, it will stream first on Peacock. Once it’s spent 18 months there, it will head to STARZ for an exclusive window.
How long will it take for “Conclave” to reach Peacock? That’s a harder question to answer than it has been for many other movies. “Drive-Away Dolls” is just the latest example of a movie from NBCUniversal that took just 49 days to reach Peacock after its theatrical debut, just like “Cocaine Bear,” “Violent Night” and “M3GAN.”
On the other hand, Oscar contender “Oppenheimer” took 209 days to hit Peacock after releasing in theaters last summer. “Conclave” too might be awards bait, and even if it doesn’t have quite the broad appeal of “Oppenheimer” it’s likely to stay in theaters longer than 49 days.
I’ll split the difference with my prediction and say that “Conclave” will arrive on Peacock on Friday, Jan. 31, 98 days from its release date. That will send it to streaming just in time for For Your Consideration viewing and will allow audiences to re-familiarize themselves with Fiennes’ performance ahead of Oscar season.
